Tioga Pass Closed Due to Snow !

Crazy weather!
I was listening to the lightning strikes from Bill Harr's recent referral, lightningmaps.org today. Looked like Tahoe took a few strikes directly into the lake.

I just checked Caltrans and Tioga Pass must have reopened.

Sorry, drought or no, I do not like seeing snow in July. We only have 3 reliable snow-free months here and July is one of them. ;) :)

In the western high country, it can snow any month of the year. We visited Glacier NP many years ago after a good snow storm. The national news reported Glacier closed (it was for a few hours), so the crowds went elsewhere. It was great to have the park relatively unpopulated.

Here in Oregon, I have managed to backcountry ski every month except September.

It's true, the nice thing about the west is you can find any climate you want pretty much within driving distance anytime of year.
