Trash-a-Roo mount for Four Wheel Camper (likely would work for any truck camper)

Having used a Trash-a-Roo camping, I really wanted one; however, I did not have a spare tire to hang it on. I received one for Christmas so I had to figure something out. I was heading out for a week camping up the Eastern Sierra and wanted to use it. I know this does not look great, but I knocked it out in 30 min at 10 PM before departure. The reason I’m posting this though is it worked flawless with ~100 miles of off-road driving with zero problems!

It is mounted on my Hawk, attaching on the lower step and right-rear jack mount. The step is not totally level, so that is cut at 12 degrees. I used long sheetmetal screws (#12 x 2”) and fender washers to attach. For the ones on the step, I mounted in the outer edges to eliminate the possibility of slipping back and forth.

The upper cross member rests against the upper step so nothing touches the camper itself as with the dust and shaking, it would rub raw the back of the camper. I did have to use two big Tie Wraps to keep the straps from slipping.

Note: you have to keep in up and snug as it blocks and obstructs the turn signal a bit (’08 Tundra).

If I were to upgrade I would add strap U-Bolts. As always, please feel free to ask any questions and move it up about 4” so that it would not block the tail light as much.

Hi Roger,

I added footman loops to my Hawk for the Trasharoo. While traveling I have it mounted up high and loop the straps through all four loops to keep it from flapping. - when I get set up - I can drop it down to the lower of the 2 so it can be easier to reach for those who are vertically challenged. I also keep a bungy cord handy to help hold the door open.

Footman Loops are easy to find.

Did a similar thing that TT did with footman loops. Can mount either side, as it is fastened to jack mounts.does not flap just hangs.
I cross the straps.

Would like to make another, but out of a single piece of 1" round tube. Would use 3/16 round stock instead of footmans.

I fastened a u type bolt to my jack mount and use step. Works fine and does not block the lights. When it get fuller and open door can't latch as designed I just use a small carabiner to the strap it works great. All in all pretty simple and works fine I'm actually happy with it .
