We are still working on getting a camper. Getting back all our gear to where it was after living north of the Arctic Circle in a 255 person fly in only community for three years has been quite a chore.
Here is the link to our home page. There are lots of photos. Click your cursor on the headings and a different folder will open, click on the thumbnail pictures and the photo will enlarge.

Robbie-Heading to Alaska in the Morning

Robbie,

I'm leaving in the morning and should be in your neigborhood about the end of next week.

I'm taking the scenic route from central Texas and through Wyoming and Montana.

I'll check this forum somewhere along the line and update you if you want to take a look at my ATC Panther camper.

Perhaps we can meet up.

We drove our Tundra to Deadhorse with the Hawk on her back in 2004. I wish I could have stayed. Camped a few nights along the river outside of Deadhorse and woke up with Caribou surrounding the camper. One day the wind stopped and the mosquitos almost picked the truck off the ground. We wore out two of the racket bug zappers in a few months. One flaw we found with the camper was after we fell asleep one evening in Cordova and there was a nice breeze, we woke up and there were a million gnats inside the camper. We had made extra fine mosquito nets for the windows with velcro just in case but we didn't see them, the breeze had them knocked down, fell asleep, the wind stopped and they attacked:eek: I think I set a record. Drove the Tundra from Deadhorse 502.4 miles to the outside of Fairbanks on a single tank of gas. We filled up at the excellent spring alongside the road, probably could have made it all the way back into town but if you know the area, no shoulder to add gas from a can.

Last Weekend Pictures

Still no camper but here are some pictures from 60 miles down the road. the lake was pretty lonely. We had the place to ourselves for two nights then it got crowded as two other units arrived..

If you are coming up Highway 37 this is Boya Lake approx 45 miles south of the Alaska Highway.

Buzz Approaching

Robbie,

It's afternoon on the 27th. I am in Red Deer using the world's slowest wifi.

You live in Watson Lake, right?

Still hoping to get there by the end of the week.

Also, I usually change my own oil in the diesel; but, I would entertain paying somebody else to do it if you can recommend a local business who is reasonably priced. I stopped at a place in Calgary who wanted $130 Canadian plus tax. A bit steeper than what I am accustomed to. I brought along my own filter and a drain pan. Just need to purchase the oil.

Re oil etc

Buzz,
Yes Watson Lake.
For oil change try a Canadian Tire Store. Will be one in Red Deer or Calgary etc.

Or one of the national chains such as Mr. Lube.

Don't wait until you get up here.

Enjoyed the visit. Thank you again.

I've had a lot of trouble with the internet service ever since I got on the road.

I'm in Valdez right now. Supposed to go back up to the Copper River to sample some freshly caught and smoked salmon in a few days.

Having as much fun as I can.

Good to Hear

Hi Buzz,
Valdez is a very scenic spot. Check out both museums. The oil spill one is just down by the Alaska Marine Ferry Dock.

Have a great trip..
