Truck camper home build

Karlton said:
This is a cool project. Are you making this as a flatbed camper?
Yes this project is for a flatbed. This is our truck that we put a flatbed on the summer of '19 so we could add more storage to our Lance camper. It worked out well. The doors on the storage compartments we added to the Lance drop down making workbench or counter space which is super handy and will be missed. Maybe we'll add something to the exterior of the project rig to serve that purpose.

I got the ceiling panels installed yesterday and painted this morning so I went back to working on the door seals. I'm installing the v type weather seal from a residential door and I think it's going to work great.

The door trim and weather seal is done and painted. It sealed up pretty good and doesn't look too bad for my first attempt at making a door.

I cut in some soffit vents that were left over from house construction. With a coat of black paint and some silicone to seal the perimeter, they look almost like a factory install. They're there to vent the propane and diesel compartment.

I used this corner seal tape to cover the top of the wall around the perimeter. It has a pressure sensitive adhesive and a permanent bond.
It'll keep any condensation from soaking into the wall and soften the edges that the liner will lay over when the top is down.

Learning how to bend conduit for the roof lift. Four sticks gone and I'm still an apprentice. I got four more sticks today. Fingers crossed I'll get it right this time.

The funky shape was just an attempt to figure out the corner formula.

Am exciting package arrived today. The canvas liner that Phoenix Pop up campers made for me.
Once I settle on the gas prop mount points, it'll be time to put the roof on and attach the liner.

After some trial and error the lifter arms are bent.

Lacking geometry skills, I laid out some scraps to work out the gas strut legnth. I found some 30" 60lb stainless steel struts on Amazon and ordered them and the 13mm brackets.

The kitchen is coming together. The second pic is of drilling holes for the lifter arms. I might have nailed it on the first try if I hadn't cut the legs to legnth before drilling the holes. I'll be going out for more conduit tomorrow and we'll try again.

Top looks great!

3 new questions for you.

How do the top and bottom mate? Two flat surfaces? Weatherstripping?

Also, regarding the width of the camper and your flatbed. The angled gussets attached between your flatbed and headache rack won't interfere?

Did you source the windows/door from anyplace special?

Thanks and keep it rolling!
-Chris
