Used Camper Alert Thread

I have a line on one of these Rangers with the "wings" on the side and rear. I know it will fit my T100, but the "wings" will get in the way. Are these wings load bearing and/or structural? Does any know if I can just trim it flush on the sides and cut it down from 69 to 58 inches (5.5 inches per side) in the rear? Fill in the break/backup lights? Would I just be buying myself trouble than it is worth?

Thanks!

Roger

It looks like a 1992 or a 1993.

It looks like an 8' long camper.

The camper might (or might not) have small 2" aluminum filler wings on the back of the camper that would need to be trimmed off for the camper to beter fit a 2000 Chevy 2500, but it is not that hard to do.

But besides that it should be OK (in theory).

The price looks good too !

:)

The part that wraps forward on the truck can be fairly easily removed. The portion that is a continuation of the back wall would take some structural rework I believe.

Roger, the wings are removable taking about 30 minutes. There are framed on the inside with aluminum square tube. You will find round access holes to 1/4" hex head screws that hold them on. You will need to do some trimming of the thin aluminum siding. You should then be able to get it on your truck. You will need to do some clean up in the near future. Some like me have kept the tail lights, others have eliminated them. Do a search of the forum here and you should find much information along with photos of work done by members on their ranger FWCs. If the camper is in good shape in other areas, it fits your truck, and you think it worth the asking price, dealing with the wings shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I think the "Texan" Pop Up is actually a Texson Pop Up. They were made by RC Willet Co. who now makes Northstar. I think they used wood frames, but either way seem to have built a good camper.
