Used Camper Alert Thread

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/rvs/1699864863.html

From the Craigslist ad:

I am back after a week long trip along the border and after spending more time outside the camper then in it, I am putting it for sale and building my own custom camper.

1984 Four Wheel Camper Aluminum framed, lightweight 640 pounds. will only fit older full size trucks.
2 Optima yellow top batteries
125 watt solar panel, trace charge controller
recently refurbished propane furnace
full size propane tank
2 burner stove
sink
6 gallon water tank
ARB awning
2 crank up jacks with new cable and assemblies, work very well
NEW rear door
NEW front popup supports custom built by four wheel camper
New water fill
NEW 12 volt lights inside and out
sleeps 4 comfortably
Pop up material is not canvas but rather a vinyl and it insulated double walled, no rot or repairs but does have cosmetic discoloration on one part of it on the over head bed.
The cab over section has been completely rebuilt using marine grade plywood, this camper does not leak anywhere!

I am the second owner and have the original owners manual, bill of sale and even the sales paperwork!

Price is $2998

I am pretty firm on price but I am willing to do partial trade for a mountaineer camper shell, long bed carpet kit, top quality backpacking gear, kayak,ARB fridge, Roof top tent, guns or something else that sounds cool but please no low-ball offers, I have a lot of money into this camper and if I can't sell it in the next week or so I will keep it and remodel the inside to better fit my adventures.
I am off work today and still cleaning out the camper from my trip, if you want to come look at it give me a call I can also deliver pretty much anywhere in the valley for free and outside the valley for fuel cost.

Wow you folks are quick to find these things! I only had it listed for 1 day before I removed the ad.
That is my camper I am back and forth trying to decide to sell it or not, I have put a lot of work into it but it still just doesn't seem to fit our family or adventure lifestyle as I expected it would. I removed the craigslist ad after getting several calls from people offering me $500 or $1500 or what is your bottom dollor price on it without even coming to look at my camper. I am at the point with this camper I will never recoup my money so I either keep it and find a way to make it work for me or sell it.
If anyone on here is interested in my old camper I would consider partial trade for a roof top tent, ARB/Engel fridge.

And yes this is the samae camper that was for sale in Silver City , New Mexico. I bought it from Bill Lee and convinced hom to deliver it to myhouse in Arizona

Is that a Four Wheel Camper? If so, what model? Does it have the extended cab overhead bed?

Thanks

teleturns, it is a FWC and I would guess a Grandby model since it is for an 8' truck bed.

Man that is the one I have been looking for..... The drive is one hell of a commitment though

...and it's sold

Keep looking and act quick. I looked at several Hawks and everyone under $8,000 sold before I got to it. UNTIL I got a call from a friend, 2002 Hawk everything except Solar and awning for $3,500 did not even get listed. I was ready with cash.

teleturns, Bill is right, they go fast. Patience, keep watching, a good one will show up for you. BTW, really like the user name.

I know that they go really fast. I am ready with cash though. I would really like to find something in the four corners states. Looks like from what I have seen Denver or Albuquerque will be the place to find one. Ski3pin you are more than welcome to come backcountry skiing with me and my friends anytime. We usually ski until June in the Wolf Creek CO area.

I was down at a Yakima shop and could not figure out what model rack you used. I presume you used gutterless crossbars and some sort of rack. Is it the wire style rack? How much stuff can you get in there? I measured 7" total from roof to camper bed bottom.

I purchased a new 2008 Hawk for my 2000 Tundra from the FWC factory in Woodland. At that time, they asked me if I wanted it built especially for the Tundra (which I assumed was the Kestrel model)....or if I just wanted to build it to standard specs. I opted for standard specs reasoning that I would be replacing the Tundra in a couple of years (didn't know with what at the time).

So, bottom line is a standard FWC Hawk model fits just fine on a Tundra. All that happens is that you end up with a bit more room between the forward extension and the roof of the truck. I ended up putting a Yakama roof rack in that spot and stored folding chairs and the like up there.

The standard Hawk will work just fine....go for it! Here is a picture of the standrd Hawk on a Tundra.
