I posted a couple I found over in the Gear Exchange this weekend, one was in Canada, but he was willing to travel some of the way to deliver..

So just buy the camper or see about making him a combo offer now since you know he was at least open to the idea before...

I think it went down the opposite of normal.

I think this guy posting the camper for sale bought the truck & camper combo, but only wanted the truck, and not the camper.

The original owner was in Napa somewhere I think ?

$4000 is not a bad price for the camper (all things considered), but the Falcon Model is sure small inside.

And the Falcon Model is a "Bolt Down" install. So taking it on & off the truck is not as easy as using the normal aluminum turn buckles.

Stan, thanks for the info on the Falcon Model. I thought the same thing as you when I saw this pop up. It seems plausible the truck and camper sold quickly and the seller just did not respond to further inquiries; an irritating reality of craigslist sometimes.

Found this on Craigslist. Was gonna drive up and probably buy it this weekend but it is 60 inches wide at the tailgate and I need 58. I spoke to the guy on the phone and he said it is the 6 foot bed version (says long bed in the ad).

I called the above guy about the camper.

I don't believe it is a hawk

He says the camper rests on the side rails of the truck.

The camper does not have a furnace. Not sure if you can add one after the. Fact.

Hope this helps someone out a little

That is not right. I would think using it like that has caused damage to the camper, but maybe Stan will chime in and confirm.

Camper is absolutely not supposed to rest on the bed rail, bad for both truck and camper. I'd look that camper over very well before considering it.

I'm actually driving out to Wichita next Friday to get this one.. IF its in the condition that he said it is in. I've already spoken to Terry @ FourWheel about mounting it.. .. so I also need to check for ripples/bungles in the sidewalls? as well as the rest of the checklist from here? The guy doesnt know which one (Eagle/Hawk) it is as the serial plate is worn badly.. but the platform needed to clear my roof should take care of resting on bed rails also. correct?

Take a good look at the floor pack, if the camper has not been riding properly there may be problems.

On the super duty you are going to need a platform of 5-7 inches under the camper. I needed 7 inches under mine to fit on my '07 Tundra and I believe the bed depth on the two trucks is similar. I agree with Hadley the floor pack would be my big concerns that's a lot of weight in equipment and then people inside to have on the one part of the camper that is wood. The older campers often have the floor packs separating just from being beat up never mind being under supported. When you lift the seat cushions to the under seat storage on the downstairs couch that is a good place to look for the floor pack separating at the seam between the floor and the upright wall section. The floor pack separating isn't always a bad deal, it's just wood and with some nails, glue and clamps you can make it good as new sometimes. However, in this case where you know it has been improperly mounted I would take a separating floor pack as a sign of other potential problems like popped welds, buckled siding, even leaking window seals if it really got tweaked.

Good luck and Happy Camping.

It does look like an older Hawk Model.

It looks like a short bed Ford F-150.

It is on a newer Ford F-150 with the deeper truck bed, that is why the camper is probably sitting on the bed rails of the truck and not the floor of the truck.

New F-150's have a 22" deep truck bed.

A 1999 Ford F-250 has a 20" deep truck bed, but a taller truck cab.

If you put that camper on a 1999 Ford F-250 SuperDuty just plan on adding approx. 3" - 3 1/2" platform under the camper for the proper fit.

Looks like a nice camper for $ 1800 !

If the camper was sitting on the truck bed rails for only a short period of time, I would not be too freaked out about damage.

Just get a good look at the camper (off the truck if possible) and look over the wood camper base to see if anything looks weird.

Just think about this . . . you have a four wheel camper raised up in the air using the 4 corner mechanical camper jacks. Where are the stress points? On each corner and the outer ledge of the camper base. If the jacks (or cable jacks) can support the camper off of that wooded camper ledge, I don't think the camper will be damaged by sitting on the bed rails of the truck for a short period of time. I would highly doubt they were dumb enough to use the camper, if the camper floor was free floating and not sitting on the truck bed? If that was the case, I would be more worried about damage to the very bottom of the camper (the camper floor).

But usually these darn things hold up for a long time without too many major problems.

It is always a gamble when buying a used camper, but you won't know if you are getting the killer deal until you at least go check it out. For $ 1800 I don't think you can go wrong. It will always resell for that amount quickly.

Good luck on the purchase.

:)
