Vintage or unique camper setup

Im an outdoorsman who gets out as much as my schedule allows. I have a family and we take our pop up trailer out at least a half a dozen times each year. Ive also been dabbling in the overland hobby and love the Four Wheel Camper with any new Dodge, Toyota or Ford. However, on my budget, I didnt have the space available to go get a new truck and camper, so I did the next best thing. I found a vintage FWC Keystone and then found a truck that would fit it.
Its winter in my area, so its kind of sitting waiting for the warmer months to keep working on the upgrades and updates, but for now, I just love having it waiting for me.
I was looking for forums or posts that highlight this combination of a more budget truck and camper setup that is equally capable (maybe) as the new counterparts, and found very little, so I'm starting a new post just for that reason. If I can figure out how to attach my rig, it should show up below:

I find it funny to read "Vintage or Unique Camper Setup" and FWC Keystone in the same posting.

"Vintage" for many of us here means two US Army shelter halfs and a hatchet.

Thanks David, I guess Vintage is a relative term. I'm in the Denver Metro area, which offers lots of space to explore west of here.

Welcome to the site. If you figure out how to do searching you will fnd a lot of information here that has accumulated over the years.

I own a 2007 FWC Keystone that is carried by my 1993 Dodge W250 Clubcab LE Diesel Longbed. Previously I had a 1986 Keystone on it.

I have a good friend who has a mid 1980s vintage FWC Keystone on his 1993 Dodge W250 Standard Cab Diesel Longbed.

The Pre 1994 or so Keystones have a wider floor pack and a shorter over cab bed. The over cab bed is also at least an inch thinner. Also many had a permanently attached mattress extension that folded up (hinged over the front window) and was supported by brackets rather than on a slide out like the newer campers have. The cabinet and underbed material is pressed wood rather than plywood so beware of getting it wet.

Another feature is that the rear of the camper has built in turn and stop lights because it extends over the full width of the back of the cargo bed unlike the newer versions.

The newer roll over couches are sturdier than the old model with the separate back bolster that had fold out feet.

The old pop-up siding material lasts longest when stored popped up and inside out of the Sun.

The older power converter probably should be replaced if it is still in the camper. One other nice thing in the some of the older campers is the 3 burner stove top.

My old Keystone had a factory Aluminum rack on the roof above the back door. I like the Yakinma rails and crossbars on the newer Keystone much better.

I miss the wider floor of the older Keystone but I like the wider over cab bed area with pull out extension as well as the thicker mattress. I also like the the slightly better (but not much) cabinets) and the roll over couch.in the newer camper.
