What year was a outdoor shower to be a option on a Hawk ?

Hello ,

Long time lurker , I've come to the conclusion that to order a brand new Hawk with a 40k price tag , might effect some my short tern goals in retirement . It could be in the future though .


- Ok Ill get to it........ I'm looking for a used Hawk what year did it start as it a option ?

Dave, first… Welcome to WTW!

Second, I’m not a fan of water heaters, as I’ve had more than one problem with them. For showers, there are a number of portable propane units. The Zodi is one example. Currently, we simply heat water on the stove, then take sponge baths. Every few days, a night in an RV park, or a quick trip to a hot spring sufices. Water heaters take up a lot of storage room, too.

First off, welcome and best of luck with your search for a camper. I'm with Mr. Sage, above. There are simpler and less expensive solutions to an outdoor shower. A main drawback is it ties you to the camper. I like options for a shower, such as behind a rock, out in the sun, or out of the wind.

FWC started installing hot water heaters / outside showers around 2005 - 2006.

(optional equipment, so not all used campers back then will have one installed)

If you can find a used FWC that already has one installed, then that is a bonus, and might be your best route, if it is a "must have" for you.

It is hard for most customers to install the hot water heater and outside shower on older campers.

You will have to be very handy, creative, and resourceful.

Finding the right parts might be hard.

Getting someone to install the parts for you might be even harder.

FWC will not be of much help with installation instructions or details on "how to".

Also remember whatever is not "built in" must be carried/stored somewhere in/on the FWC or truck...space is always an issue and weight a consideration...just my take...and experience with a '05 Tundra AC and '16 Hawk...

I’m very happy having the built in water heater and external shower. However if I was shopping for a used camper I would not hesitate to consider one lacking the factory install as there are very good portable units available.

Portable means you must find a place to store, carry and use it..I also am very happy with our hawk 6 gal water heater; although our outside shower is seldom used, but VERY nice in summer when you really, really need one...

I'm likely in a couple months of looking for used just pony up ,after all this may be my last camp rig ,I've been thru so many type$$, I think I like the fact of having it on board ,built in .one more thing to store somewhere, when space is limited .

Stan is a bit off. My camper has one and its a 2004. I love it.

Correct. We did build a few campers in 2004 called the X Model. Those were some of the first with hot water / outside shower.

I don't recall it being a new item or anything unusual then but my invoice does show its a -Hawk Camper ( 20937-HX ).
