Not happy to hear about this fire. Keeping my fingers crossed for more rain out that way.

I enjoyed reading your trip report, too. I had to look up Orvis Hot Springs. Looks like a winner.

I agree about the limitations of a PLB or SPOT. They aren't infallible, and aren't a replacement for common sense. They are another piece of safety gear. SPOT claims to have enables 2500 rescues so far, and there's an interesting map on their rescue PR page at...

Enjoyed reading the inaugural trip report! The Bodega environs used to be a popular trip destination for my family when I was a youngster, too, so I got a little nostalgia hit. I'm glad you are enjoying your camper!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pictorial Trip Report-6 Week US West

Some great images there, clikrf8. Moody, cloudy landscapes, reflections, and dead stumps seeming to be suspended above a beaver pond - I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite. Thanks for sharing them.

I appreciate your post, Smoke. Even the most skilled outdoorsman can have s**t happen. A PLB or SPOT might save you from a bad situation - even if you aren't alone. Of course, this doesn't excuse stunting with a jeep when you are risking others' lives, or other thoughtless activity. Even so...

x2. A PLB or SPOT could have saved a lot of time and effort in this case.

Predicted lows tonight in Eagle Nest, NM are -20 F. Makes the predicted low in the lower teens in the Sacramento Mts. seem downright balmy.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The most stupid people on earth or just a$$holes? Post your opinion.

Wow, Ted. Sorry you had to encounter those people. I've never had a campsite stolen, but have worried that it might happen, even with gear left out. So, I bought an inexpensive stake sign that says "Campsite Occupied". Of course, that type of person that you encountered might not be able to...

Enjoyed the first part of your TR. I never stopped at Trees of Mystery, so it was fun seeing your photos. I remember seeing a lot of Trees of Mystery bumper stickers on cars along the coast highway. I suspected that visitors got them whether they wanted them or not.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Astro Thread

Up to yesterday comet ISON has been something of a bust. However, reports are coming in that it is undergoing an outburst, and may reach naked-eye magnitude. It should be easy to spot in binoculars. The catch is it's a morning sky object, so you have to get up before dawn to see it. Should be...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The new coffee thread

:D  Thanks for the laugh, Mark. The company I buy green beans from also has descriptions that are somewhat fanciful, and they even have two sets of descriptions based on the degree of roast. All I know is that freshly roasted and ground coffee tastes good.
