I really appreciated the sketches and stories, and seeing those familiar places through your eyes. “I always wanted to be an old man” is such a great line. Being one myself, I immediately took it to heart.
I was in DV last week. A little too crowded at Stovepipe and Valley floor. Few people at the Wildrose campsite, which I always like, and ended up going out through Wildrose and taking turnoff to Panamint Springs.
i had a Hawk on my Tundra for many years and ended up selling that and buying a...

I recently sold my 2001 Grandby for $6500. It was very clean with usual options - furnace, refrig, 3 way fan, screen door, back steps, sliding window. It sold on CL to second person who looked at it. I'd just as soon forget about the first person.
Bill - good pic, my favorite time of day.
You answered my question about tent or rv sites. Some places don't like pop ups in tent sites.
Going to Bryce this summer.

Dan - Thanks so much. I think you solved the problem. I did find that opening between cab and camper to be enormously useful. There was that feeling of space; while driving I could store things behind me that were still easily accessible, and while stopped I could shove a backpack or duffel...
I really did like having it all open and I could go back and forth. They did fit fairly close together. If it was cold, the heater from the truck would blow back into the camper by the time I was in there to start the furnace.
I ordered the 2015 Hawk and will take a deep breath and probably...
Congratulations, and great looking rig. Always tough to spend the money, but I think it's worse to short yourself on something you love.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures. My wife and I are now a little obsessed with street photography.
I recently sold a 2001 Grandby which I had on a 2002 Tundra regular cab longbed (looking to sell). I liked it a lot but it was inconvenient going around to the back of the camper to get stuff. Also, sometimes I wanted to get into the truck from the camper without going around outside. That...

Thanks a lot for that, too much post purchase thinking. The seats would have to be the same.
The Hawk will go on my 2006 Tundra DC 4x4 unless I go crazy and upgrade the truck.

Congratulations and good to hear about your experience. I just ordered a 2015 Hawk. I too, went with front dinette and no toilet or shower. Looked like a lot more storage with front dinette and no big side window. Is that front table area roomy enough? I little late for that I know but we...
Try the Horseshoe Meadow road off the Whitney Portal road in Lone Pine. Wonderful, paved ride, over 10,000 ft, camping facilities, multiple trailheads into Sierras.
That is a good point. I am semi retired, I know I like some warmth in the morning. I also know that I should stay away from any tools. Adding a furnace almost moves me back to thinking about the Hawk (not shell) and seeing if they could drop the refrig. and stove.
It will all settle down after...
Well, you guys are great. I live in Sacramento and like camping, riding my mtn bike in Death Valley, surrounding desert, eastern Sierras and White Mountains. I think I can comfortably go with the shell, and add a cooler and a little propane heater when needed. The awning might be tough to...
Thanks for all your help. I am more minimalist but didn't want to close off any options which might be important. I see that I can get an ice chest that can run off the battery, and a catalytic converter so those areas would be covered when I need them. I prefer having the kitchen outside...
New user. I am ready to order a FWC Hawk for my 2006 Tundra double cab 4x4. I am off road a fair amount in the desert. Having a hard time deciding whether to order shell (with many options) or full Hawk model. I am leaning toward shell because of extra storage space. I do not think I would...
