RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Water Tank Vent Question

The tank on our Grandby vents through the fill port on the side. Behind the door is the fill port and the vent plus the connection for pressurized city water. I'm not sure location is critical. Obviously the vent has to be higher than the tank and I would make sure its open to the outside just...

Morning coffee in the Grandby was fine! Got a couple of hours? I'll tell you about the next 100 trips I planned.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Finally, Here It Is!

Thanks all! I've just being reviewing articles and videos of places we want to travel. Probably a mistake. The list at least doubled just in the last couple of hours :D I suppose I will have to take the camper off soon. The truck has other responsibilities but I'll leave it on for a couple...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Awning location question

The right side does kind of make sense for all the reasons suggested by others especially with the appliances all venting on the left side. This is usually where the grey water pail lives too - not the most appealing companion while enjoying a cool one. All that being said, I think Chnlisle has...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West An Experiment: How much does the camper affect mileage?

Since I was driving from Winnipeg to Calgary and back along the exact same route to pick up the new Grandby, I decided it was great opportunity to carry out a mileage experiment. The distance is 1350 km (840 miles) each way. The eastern half is quite flat and the western half is tall rolling...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Finally, Here It Is!

So, after asking a hundred questions on this forum (thanks for all the great discussions), trying to cover a thousand different scenarios, placing the order, receiving notice of production, and a long 3 month wait before pickup, here is the new Grandby. Even managed to get a bit of dirt on it...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Random FWC Photos

As a fellow Tundra owner, congrats. I'm sure both the camper and truck will see lots of happy miles. Any idea of what the camper does to your mileage? I'll be heading west in the next few weeks to pick up my new Grandby and I'm curious what the effect the camper is going to have.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rebuilding a Granby

Great start! Two things I find particularly interesting. The first is how the until looks in pretty good overall shape for 25+ years old. The second is the broken welds. I guess I'm a little surprised. How many have you found and any idea why the broke?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC Mounting Suggestions

Is there any particular reason not to plug the camper into the 7-pin plug on the back of the truck? I would think you should only need the running lights pin and the battery charge pin. Turn signal, stop, and brakes have no meaning to the FWC.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Solar Battery charging

I've thought a bit about this too. When we pick up the Grandby this spring and bring it home, it will live in a shed at the bottom of our yard when not in use (which isn't very often I hope!). The shed won't have electricity. I think what I will do is buy a little 20 watt solar panel (they are...

Nice. Thinking I need to copy this. Question though: how did you fix the wood to the wall? Sorry for the tardy response. Other stuff kind of overtook getting to the forum. In this case, the stove is behind the bracket. I removed the 4 screws holding the stove, slid it forward and then glued a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Gray Water tank for Hawk

Very clever idea. The same design could be used to carry extra water. My truck bed is 8'. A 4" pipe on each side would give me about an extra 8 gallons of water in a space that is mostly wasted.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coffee maker?

I never met an instant I liked until my son, who was working at Starbucks to put himself through school, insisted we take some of their VIA on a canoe trip. I warned him I would be very grumpy if it wasn't up to snuff. Reluctantly, I had to admit it wasn't bad. Still, I'll stick with my French...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Grandby dinette comments wanted

My wife and I looked at both seating arrangements when we visited FWCCanada last summer. It took us about 5 seconds to choose the dinette. In addition to all the pluses others have mentioned, we still enjoy looking at each other while we eat, even after being married for over 30 years. We also...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Parallel or series battery run

One advantage to having 2 12 volt batteries is if one dies or gets weak, it can always be disconnected and you can limp along on the single remaining 12 volt. If one of the 6 volts dies, you're hooped. Similarly, if your vehicle battery dies, you could likely jury rig one of the 12 volts into...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Parallel or series battery run

White dog you're not comparing apples to apples in your statements. Sure a 6V battery in a golf cart sized casing is going to have more juice than many 12V but they aren't the same thing. You can't make broad 6V battery statements based on it. They make 6V batteries in the same size cases as...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Parallel or series battery run

I've used a pair of 6 VDC batteries in my travel trailer for a while now. Width is about the same, length a bit less but they are definitely taller. The amp rating for these paired to give 12 VDC is definitely greater and in fact this has been my experience. The 6 VDC batteries are also quite a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West California coyotes better watch out!

I have to share this story . . . I had dinner on New Year's Eve with a close friend and his neighbour. They both live in 'cottage country' in eastern Manitoba. Wolves are common here. If you travel in the back country, it is almost rare not to at least hear them at night and sightings are...

I guess they figure if you are looking at topo, you care about where the summits are. True enough but when the density gets so high the contour lines get blocked, I get annoyed. Granted, the idea may be good but please Garmin, let me turn them off. I hate software that makes me think like they...
