RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Camping/Hiking hats?

I prefer Tilleys. The two I own are light, vented, do just fine in the wind (use the strap correctly) and are guaranteed, even against loss.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Silverado 2500 Payload

Minus weight of occupants and all other gear. My '01 2500HD has a camper rating of about 2400# but it has six seatbealts so the trucks total payload max is about 3300#. Part of the reason I never replaced my old Lance camper is they've gotten too heavy and the dishonesty from manufacturers...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coffee maker?

Once again, the best simple, easy to make coffee at home or on the road is Melitta pourover drip. You control the grounds, water temp, brew time, and have no mess to clean. I've done almost all the methods and nothing beats the simplicity and quality of pourover. I now brew mine into the 20oz...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New VW Pop up Camper California

I noted he had lots of trouble with stuff that slides, moves, or otherwise adjusts. The major van companies are missing the boat on what many of us want. I was lucky to score a PleasureWay Traverse back in 2008 and I'm hanging onto it for dear life.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coffee maker?

My trips are all about simplicity. I do like my morning coffee though so I make it in camp the same as at home - a Melitta single cup filter holder (the inexpensive plastic version). I use #4 filters which are far less expensive and easier to find than the #2 filters and work far better with...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Kidde fire extinguisher recall

Glad I saw this topic. Only one of mine at this house was affected but I have to check the PW van at our other place to see what's in there.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Fire ring anyone got ideas

That's pretty clever and an inexpensive solution to a problem that a few manufacturers have made expensive solutions for.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West What do you leave to occupy your site?

Back in the late 70's, I actually developed a "Campsite Occupied" sign that was weather resistant and flexible plastic and was silk screened. We tried to sell them to the various chains and had little luck. No one seemed to think they were necessary. I probably had 100 made up as samples and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Possible Western Trip

I would suggest you see every national park/monument possible. The Four Corners area is definitely worthwhile for all that surrounds it. The actual site is also interesting for a few bucks. Southern Utah is like another world and all parks there are a must. Ask yourself, how many chances...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West What's your favorite camp chair?

I've had a couple of those large, collapsible sling chairs for better than 10 years and I still find them very comfortable. Think they might have been from Walmart and probably less than $20 then. Remarkably sturdy so far.

I may try the Pett frame due to its briefcase sized fold.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Where do you go when you gotta go?

I've used both the little Porta Potty that came with my van and wag bags (in a non-Pett folding toilet frame). It was nice in my old Lance camper and fifth wheels to use the onboard bathrooms.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Generators when camping?

When we traveled with our kids in our fifth wheel, I carried a Honda 2000 in the toolbox in the bed. We brought it for precisely two things, running our microwave for a few minutes each day and my wife's hair dryer. I bought it for emergency use at home but have only used it a couple times for...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West No see-um bug netting

I have a pop up roof on my PW Traverse van and have dealt with issue too (screens are too big a mesh). I have some no see um netting that I used to make screens to fit over the front driver and passenger window. I've wondered how I can attach this screening over the existing screens in the pop...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A Cool Camp Shower Idea

I ordered one of the Simple Showers after seeing it on Expo. Works fine, especially outdoors to do the basics. I usually use two one liter bottles than one two liter bottle.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Best lap top to take to take on our adventures?

A new tablet that's recently come out is Samsung's Tab Pro line. I got the 12.2" version and it has a large screen, a terrific, full, onscreen keyboard, and, will soon be available in a cellular version. I got the wi-fi only version though. Great graphics, strong battery, and much better...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Fire Pans?

I don't know, maybe it's me, but if I can't make a proper small fire, I'll just pass. Then again, where I camp few do so making fires is rarely a concern. I feel sorry for folks that are stuck camping in impacted areas but the rules to try to preserve them as best as possible make sense.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coffee maker?

If you haven't tried what a few of us suggested - a Melitta single cup filter into your mug (or theirs) you really don't know what you're missing. It's the cheapest way to get the best cup of coffee brewed as you like it with no fuss and no clean-up. $5.50 shipped...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Stove for Inside/Outside

I use a butane restaurant burner in my Pleasureway Traverse more often than the built in two burner propane cooktop. I've used them far more often than any other type of cooktop for vehicle based camping. If I ordered a new rig from an outfit like FWC or Sportsmobile I'd order it without a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coffee maker?

We've used the single cup Melitta filter holders for at least 20 years now, both at home and on the road. We drip into stainless steel thermal carafe mugs. We grind French roast beans at home but take it pre-ground with us on our travels. Water is precious when camping and wasting it to wash...

Picked up your link from ExPo. Great report and great photos. I've lived in Twin Falls since 1994 and have never been to Jarbidge! I've got to spend a little more time in my own backyard. Heading to Southern Utah soon with my 10 and 12 year old in tow. They've wandered most of the west but...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coleman Fold & Go 2 Burner Stove

I've found that I use a butane burner like these more than anything else. Not good in wind but they are compact and work well. I got mine at a local restaurant supply house. You see them in restaurants at buffet brunches where a chef is making omelets, crepes, etc. Butane burners
