Everyone stopped us When we took our fourwheel camper to Alaska 5 years ago I can't tell you how many times we were asked what it was, can we look inside, etc. It was not only fun, because I started with a shell Hawk I got to show off all that we built inside. Never made it to your neck of...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hawk - Just about Perfect for me

40 pounds wasn't the weight of the gas 5Speed, you need to check your figures, 11 gallons of gas isn't 40 lbs, more like 69 lbs plus weight of cans and your box.. I'd be reluctant to put a couple 5+ gallon cans on my roof. I've mounted a 5 gallon Sceptor military can on the back of the...

Rough roads I know the Haul Road isn't totally all dirt and rock but there and back is a little over 1000 miles and it is rough, I think that the term gravel should not be used, more like crushed large rock so anything on top didn't change or harm anything.

Heavy Roof I will admit I probably have carried too much on the roof, I had 2 - 5.5 gals of gas in a wooden rack box that probably weighed 30 lbs plus a Thule case that was stuffed full a few times, not something i am proud of but I needed the extra space. I always used the gas ASAP but when...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West buckled / bent lift frame question

How much snow was on top? I sometimes have a lot of weight on my roof with my Thule case and a rack for gas cans. When you lowered it did you support the roof and this happened or did you just pull the nob and let it drop?

Roof rack is no problem I took my 4WheelCamper to Alaska and having a roof rack was required. It was no problem getting the roof up with a rack plus stuff on the roof. I even have a bad back and was able to always get the roof up with little effort. I used the 8" camping pad roof lift...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West One of my favorite camping spots

I to have a love and hate with the area too On Thanksgiving weekend 2000 we were camping just south of there on a dry lake bed near lava falls. We were tent camping with the same tundra when it was brand new and before our FourWheel camper. A storm that flew over the sierra and slammed us...

It is the Alabama Hills Yes, it is the Alabama Hills, just up the dirt track behind the truck is a interesting cave where they filmed a Meatloaf video and the longest climb in the Hills is just a little behind the cave. Beautiful area.

Took a Zodi shower yesterday and I just used my brush guard as a towel and shampoo holder:thumb: I used my Zodi so much while spending 2 months in Alaska that I wore out the pump valve. I always heat mine to the hot zone. I made a insulator case out of a piece of evazote foam (nitrogen foam...

This might be the ticket, not cheap but I bet the sleep would be excellent thermarest dreamtime and put carpet up there under the pads to make keep everything from moving, tons of storage and the bed would be sweet. When we purchased our camper I saw the 1/2 thickness bed pads that allowed the...

I don't know if I would use memory foam for the whole mattress. Better test the foam first. I have a memory foam mattress plus a memory foam topper for my home bed and the thing about pure memory foam I would think it would compress completely if you put your elbow on it above wood. The...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Suspension air bags

I just learned something about using suspension in airbags in Toyota pickups. In models up to 2007 there is a brake proportioner valve which senses the level of the truck and changes brake pressure accordingly. In other words if there is weight in the back and the rear of the truck is lower it...

Articulation Since you have a lift be sure to check the articulation from side to side and this should point you in the direction to either have the bag slightly compressed or expanded. The bags can rip if you jack the frame with air in the bags and this could happen with a lift and full...

Firestone bags on my Tundra for the past 5 years, aside from loosing a mounting bolt on the 500 mile dirt road from Fairbanks to Deadhorse, (didn't loose the bracket, just rattled around for a while) I only check the air every time I check my tires, usually every oil change and they have never...

How to fix your leak I put a thule rack on the top and from about 4 years of a case, gas, and I am sure up to 250 lbs up there it started to leak. What I had a difficult time was understanding where it was leaking from was not where it was leaking inside. The leak was traveling down the roof...
