RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cover Bikes on Rear Carrier.

We bought one of the bike covers on Amazon, that is made from heavy cordura. the lightweight ones lasted about one trip. Best thing to keep dust, grit and rain off the bikes. Putting extra brake/taillights on is highly recommended when you are carrying bikes. I put ours on to the jack brackets...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Traveling with bikes.... recommendations

we use two different racks. A Yakima Swingdaddy and a Thule tilt model. Using a hitch extender keeps them to where you can open the door enough to get in, or using the swing feature it is no problem. Actually did modify the Thule so the door opens all the way without tilting. I also added extra...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Newbie question about tires - Tundra/Hawk

'05 Tundra and ATC Ocelot. We run Michelin AT's with E rating. They helped, but adding a Hellwig sway bar sealed the deal for stability. Even my wife driving this fall mentioned how the truck stuck to the road much better.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Jump Starters

Might take a look at these. I believe Jonathon Hansen over at Expedition Portal reviewed these. Turned over a diesel I think. https://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wonder Nevada

A great trip report as always - added to the Nevada list! We had a similar but much milder experience trying to go to New Mexico for T Day. Got as far as Moab and we both felt the hard cold coming on. Spent two days in the Moab area and then headed home. Was a good choice for us. Sorry you two...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A bit of Baja

Thanks for the link! Seeing as it will be below zero here in the north country for the next few nights, thinking about hot springs in Baja is a good idea!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yellowstone next summer?

What is your time period? Remember the eclipse event on August 21 - the locals in Jackson, WY are figuring that we will see up to an additional 40 - 50,000 people on top of the usual tourists for this event. Before or after would be a bit less crowded. There is dispersed camping up Pacific Creek...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Benton Hot Springs - November 2016

Thanks for the trip report and happy birthday. Finding lonely places on holidays is a fun challenge. Last July 4th, the Redhead and I saw only one pickup a ways off in two days in SW MT. "It doesn't get any better than that!"

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Touring Kayakers and Canoeists?

I made plywood panels the same size as the lift plates to help strenghten them. Use the speaker stand all the time with up to 75# on the roof and have not had an issue. But back to boats - currently have 13' Otter raft with fishing frame; Mad River Explorer (28 years old and still going); Bell...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 'no destination' winter travels

I have no doubt you will adapt quickly to camper life. It should be a grand trip, after two weeks it will be familiar after a month it will seem like you have been doing it for a much longer time. And you can always get a motel room once in a while for a change of pace! Best of luck, have a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1st gen Tundra tires?

I am running Michelin AT2 17's E rated on our 05 Tundra with no issues. Not sure how the BFG tires might fit, I have thought about going to them for the extra sidewall, but the Michelins have 42K on them with no problems so far.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West RTIC Coolers

Looks like it is not IGBC approved (for bear proof containers) if that is an issue where you will be using it.

Yep - looks like no corner jacks. The danger of assumptions!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Birch Plywood

Check in with nearby cabinet makers. They might have something that works they will sell you cheap, or they might be willing to include something on their next order and the delivery cost will be lower.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Acclimation to High Elevations

Good article. But what is interesting is a friend of mine who was an amazing athlete at many sports, could not break the 15K line. Every single time he went to that level, even after spending two weeks at 12 to 14K feet, he went flat as a pancake. He was a physician and he just finally accepted...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Antenna mounted to Jack mounts?

Well, I use the jacks mounts to provide the ground for the trailer lights that are mounted to the jack mounts also. Should provide more than enough ground I think.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Our Bobcat Countdown is Winding Down

It will be great. We got the Ocelot partially built, then after a few trips figured out how we wanted to finish it for storage, etc. That helps so much to know how what you have will fit in and build around it. Have a great time in the new Bobcat

If you are handy with retrofitting, look at a Propex furnace. Small and efficient. Provides plenty of heat for our Ocelot.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Reducing weight

Similar to Alley-Kat. ATC Ocelot, part built out by myself. No fridge, just ice box ATC installed. Don't need the refrigeration, use ice if really necessary. Small Propex furnace which is more than enough even in zero degrees to keep the camper comfortable. Did install a two burner propane...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bears and food question

Having lived in black bear and griz country most of my life, what everyone else has said is true. If a bear wants in, they will get in unless you are using a steel conex container - which is what many outfitters are now using at regular trailheads they operate out of to store horse feed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mountainsmith storage solution for Bobcat

We have been using those in our Ocelot for the last three or four years. Work perfectly - they fit exactly under the stored table and two fit perfectly in the seat storage. Plus we use the gray case for all the dog gear, food, water, etc. They really work well. Don't know how to select the...
