RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Finally, Here It Is!

Nice lookin' rig! Just checked out (read skimmed) your mileage report. You really get 23-24 mpg regularly with your unloaded Tundra?! That's awesome. I've seen 19 once with my unloaded 2003. Down hill. With a tail wind... Enjoy your new home!

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West '88 Grandby stove

Anyone know what brand stoves were used in the late 80's Grandbys? I need some new knobs and need to know what brand. Thanks, Kevin

Nice lookin' rig. I've got an '03Tundra with a late 80's FWC on it. I'd be curious to hear how your Alaskan/Tundra is treating you, especially in regards to mpg. Drop a line if you have a chance. Happy travels, Kevin

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Gutted Fleet - Rebuilding

Yeah, 13mpg hurts! Seems to be right around there whether boards are on top or not. There is a 7"+ gap between cab and camper, I'm sure that has alot to do with it. I tried selling it, partly because of mileage, but also because I'd like a bit more payload. Problem was, every time I got into...

I envy your mpg. They say mpg goes up when a rig is for sale, is that the case!? I've had my truck for 3 yrs and have never gotten better than 19, and I'm a conservative driver. With camper on, 13 is a good day. Well maintained, K&N air-filter, keep it under 2400rpms when accelerating, nothing...

When your done, Teleturns, you can come & start on the flatbed conversion of mine! I saw those white grips also. Best of both worlds? What bars are those Scheef?

Congrats on a finished (for now) project, it looks great! That Fleetwood really fits the Tundra nicely; doesn't stick up to high. What do you get for mileage with the camper on? Did the faring help in that department at all? Getting ready for a trip down to Baja and been thinking about...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How hard to take camper off?

The adapters are easy to make if you can't find one to purchase. 1/4" drive deep well socket -large enough to fit around the post- cut slots in the edge with a grinder or dremel tool, get a get driver for your drill with a 1/4" socket adapter and off you go.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC Hauler (ie, Truck) For Sale

2003 Tundra FLATBED for sale. 116000mls, asking $13500 I built the Flatbed (6.5'W x 7'L) to house my '89 Grandby. I used the stock bed bolt holes for mounting, so no frame modifications were done. I tried to keep it as light as possible, and ended up shaving 40+lbs off the weight of the...

Nice build, congrats. Couple quick questions if you don't mind. How does the camper attach to the flatbed? Why passenger side door over drivers?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Spare Tire Mount Directly on FWC

White Dog. I've got an '03 Tundra with a front mount receiver. Think I paid $180 shipped. It took all of a half hour to install & required no drilling. While I was at it I removed the skid plate and cut a hole in it to allow access to the oil filter from below - think I like that mod better...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Propane System for Grandby Shell

Any progress NWCamper? I'm curious as to how you did/will mount the exterior valve. My heater died, so I yanked it -gaining alot of extra space as well as shaving a considerable amount of weight. I plan to use that propane line as an exterior access point. I'm going to use a quick connect...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Propane stove component cleaning

Hi all. The stove in my '89 Grandby doesn't put out as much heat as I think it should - I'm guessing things are a bit gummed up after 20+ yrs of use. I removed the regulator/valve assembly & took it to a local RV shop in hopes of some advice in cleaning. No dice. Anyone out there have any...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West What is your MPG with FWC ?

I hear ya on the Tundra, love the truck but not the mileage! Montana to Baja this fall and averaged a little over 12mpg on my '03 Tundra with '88 Grandby. Just did 300 miles this past weekend with the same setup, but cruise set at 62mph; that bumped me up to 14.6mpg.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Building a back porch

At Craigf250 & Cort; nice work, very solid! I've seen a couple 'back porch' setups carrying a lot of weight (one w/ a KLR650 far enough back to enable access to, & full operation of rear door) based on a single point hitch mount with little -if any- reinforcement. Always made me shake my head...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Another Roof Lifting Mechanism

I just finished the new push board for my On Stage roof lifter. The PO did a good interior remodel, but for some reason never re-installed the push boards, so this was a good excuse to add one. I added an extra piece with a 1 3/4" hole to keep the mechanism from sliding out while lifting...
