RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 3/4 ton upgrade to 1/2 ton......

Did you ever get feedback on what happened with the trans? That truck has a computer display with trans temp available right? Do you keep an eye on that when going up grades and such? Just wondering if you had a heat issue or failure of a bearing/oring or such. Apparently there was a tsb...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 3/4 ton upgrade to 1/2 ton......

Hi all, I am the one who spoke to Thinair today about the ecoboost. I did sell my Hawk and to be clear my Hawk was a shell which may have affected my mileage. I did generally rely on the "lie-o-meter" but did also occasionally hand calculate. Mileage after a bit was all over the map with the...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Wheeling the camper into the truck

I would NOT put the caster wheels directly on the bottom of the camper jacks. There is too much chance that you will twist & bend the corners on the frame of the camper. I have seen it too many times. :( Great idea if done properly, but just about impossible to do it properly. BEST to use...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 2nd Generation Tundra CrewMax with camper?

Is it just me or does the idea of having the camper hanging out really go against the low and forward weight distribution theory? Especially on a loaded camper...you would be way over weight and then in a bad location to boot.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC exposed wood on exterior

Any option to have the camper made with something covering the exposed exterior gray painted wood. Seems a little unfinished to me...maybe running the siding over those area's as well?

Sounds almost exactly the same as the Hawk shell I took delivery on in November. I added the drivers side window as well. I love the camper. Enjoy!

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Favorite interior fabric?

We got the deer valley apache. Kinda not in style today - should only get better as time goes by :) My wife liked that it should hide more imperfections, and with two dogs that seems to be the case. Plus I like fishes and mooses (meese :P ?)and bears and canoes - so it seemed perfect.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West BFG A/T's kinda disappointing?

275/65 18 E's with the white letters are NOT snow rated - I would check the exact tires you are buying and not rely on anything less.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West BFG A/T's kinda disappointing?

I have a pair of BFG AT that I now have over 50k on, and I really like them. That being said, they are not amazing in snow and they are somewhat poor on glare ice. And we have snow and ice on the roads about 6 months of the year. But mine do have the snowflake emblem. And this is I believe...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West BFG A/T's kinda disappointing?

Well, live and learn guys. After some interweb scouring it seems that a complaint of the NON winter rated BFG's is that they pretty much suck below 40 degrees due to the rubber compound being quite a bit harder. Apparently they are not even truly the same tread design entirely....Some folks have...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West BFG A/T's kinda disappointing?

Have you had them siped? I have not, just spoke to a tire dealer who said I could give it a shot - he said I would have about a 60% chance of being completely satisfied. For $120 it seems a whole lot cheaper than new tires. However I don't like the idea of riding around slipping and sliding...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West BFG A/T's kinda disappointing?

I bought some BFG AT ko's E load about 3000 miles ago for my 2011 F150 with an FWC Hawk shell. After a few light snow falls and quite a bit of cold rain - I was thinking I was being overly critical of the tires, or they were maybe overinflated. Now that I have the camper off and the tires...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West F150 FX4 EcoBoost

My Toyota is not under powered at all as long as you don't drop a 1500 lb. camper on it's back. Around town it drives just fine....very car like too. The point I was trying to make was not comparing my old 1/2 ton to your new 1/2 ton....but that the 3/4 ton trucks are not bad at all to drive...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West F150 FX4 EcoBoost

I have a 2011 super crew F150 ecoboost. I had my new Hawk installed 2 weeks ago. I have the Firestone airbags and BFG AT with the E rating. My experience is limited but the 125 mile drive home had me average around 18 mpg's and that was with a extremely heavy head/cross wind that was gusting...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC and winter use and abuse

Hi all, I picked my new Hawk shell a week ago from Go Anywhere in Wisconsin. Sean and Diana Dempsey were great to work with. Stan and Tom helped me out as well. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and our "loaded" shell is exactly what I had hoped for. We basically added back almost...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coffee maker?

I have not noticed if anyone else has mentioned cold brewing yet? The biggest plus is that depending on your coffee consumption, and length of trip, making an individual cup is as easy as heating water and adding the "concentrate". No cleaning up and no wasted coffee. If you are not familiar...
