    Where to mount 2m antenna?

I make my own end fed half-wave antennae, but the Laird Technologies B1442NS looks like a winner. A 1/4 wave mounted like op wants would be a bit directional because the image would be angled backwards. Not really enough to worry about I’m sure. The main thing is keep your runs short with high...

    Engine braking?

Sorry ‘bout that. It’s a 6.8L V10. Downshifting was always what I had learned coming up. I guess I got distracted trying to keep up with my buddy ahead of me in a smaller vehicle. Live and learn, and forget. And Foy, I may very well have taken click and clack out of context. I didn’t remember...

    Engine braking?

Awesome. Thanks everyone. Never thought about the overdrive button in addition to 1st or 2nd.

    Engine braking?

Do you folks engine brake? I managed to overheat my brakes and seize a caliper on my 2002 f350 w/ automatic transmission coming down from Indian Heaven Wilderness. There was a click and clack episode where they argued to just use the brakes since they are easier to fix than a drivetrain. I now...

    Big complicated hydraulics question

I’ve had the top half of my 8’ nco rise up going down the road. In my case, the pirelli upholstery rubber for the seal was worn out. Others have mentioned it on here. If your seals are good and the windows were closed then I have no idea...

Adhesive and sealants - products and applications

A friend who was restoring an old airstream gave me some parbond to try out on my Alaskan camper. I find it much easier to apply than other sealants I’ve tried.

Storing dinette table in 1966 8' NCO

Mine is ‘65 or thereabouts, the table latches onto the roof, straight above. But you have a light there. Interesting they didn’t take care of storage in yours. I’d go for replacing the bed rails with your table rather than delete the nice ceiling light you have.

    Alaskan expedition trailer

Looks like it will be a very nice platform for the Alaskan. Will you have to widen the gap between the wheel wells? I had to do that with my M101-A1. Someday I will lose the Budd wheels and heavy axle on mine.

Dealing with the obvious bi-product of eating

Really interesting method. This corroborates what Wagoneer says: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/pbem/article/394125 Thx Wagoneer!

    Just bought 8' '68 NCO

I would think you could remove just the rot and splice in new floor. I did that with a rotten half square foot rectangle in one corner of mine. I used pre-made filleting compound from System-3 and just butt spliced to the old floor. Stuff is amazing. With an area as large as yours I would...

8’ NCO Water Tank Dimensions Needed

I replaced mine with one from Broadmoor RV. I think they jack up prices though. Mine was only 30" long but here's one with thisoldcamper's dimensions: https://broadmoorrv.viaretailparts.com/10-1178 Not sure if the fittings are in the right spot for you on this one ...

Alaskan converted into a travel trailer!

My '66 8' NCO with the fridge and wardrobe gutted is 1233 lbs. But I have gotten some weird numbers on these scales before. I don't know if they didn't tare properly or what.

Alaskan converted into a travel trailer!

I have an 8 ft. NCO sometimes on an M101-A1. Honestly, I like OP’s setup better. Looks made for it. I do agree with the other poster. I’d put a heavier axle on if I go this route. Either that or downsize the axle and tires on the M101. Lol, that thing is a monster! Well done!

Electric Bike Battery Charging, options and advice

Beautiful trails! Thanks for the stoke. "I don't know what to expect for a day's total charge ??" I got my new Genasun boost controller wired up yesterday on my cargo bike. The panel is a 100W Renogy flexible monocrystalline. The battery is 48V 17.5 Ah. Yesterday was partly cloudy. I am in...

    Electric folding fat bike

I can charge a 48V ebike battery with the charger set to 2A through an inverter hooked to house battery and 100 Watt panel. It works well. Genasun makes an appropriate boost controller to go directly from panel to ebike battery. I plan to try that this summer. I've been off the ebikes for six...

    HAM Antenna related

Ah, I see that Larsen is the 144 MHz version of the Metz. Looked it up and saw NGP stands for No Ground Plane. I'm not familiar with commercial offerings. That looks like a good one. How does the SWR look? MFJ makes a version of the old AEA Hotrod. Its called the Long Ranger. I bought several...

    HAM Antenna related

Are you squared away on a 2m antenna? Rather than a j pole, I lean toward PaulT's suggestion of something like the Metz antenna which is likely a tapped resonator feeding a half wave dipole. J poles are great as long as the matching section does not couple to anything nearby. The j pole matching...

    E bikes?

I converted a '96 stumpjumper early this summer with the kit you got. That bbshd runs like a scalded ape. The eclipse chainring gives the best chain line for a 68 mm bottom bracket but you lose some top speed. Also, with 42 tooth, it was too torquey for me so I toned down the pas settings. I...

New to me Alaskan camper question.

Do the jacks bolt somewhere to the 4x4s? I couldn't see bolt holes. Those box extensions are way too expensive.

    Sway question

Learning a lot here. Thanks all. I'll look into the ideal tire pressure threads here. If you air down, will those little compressors that folks carry get you back up to 75-80 psi?

    Sway question

smlobx, wow, thanks! Looked inside the gas door and the psi is 55/80 for front/rear. My tires are Toyo AT Open Country II and they give max load @ 80 psi. They are E rated. Thing is, I remember reading the pressure should be that high on the web somewhere a couple years ago, and I went in to Les...

    Sway question

I agree that more damping would help. I'll have to check which Bilsteins I put on there and see what is out there with more damping. The oscillations are still there, just higher frequency and less amplitude, from my seat of the pants impression.

    Sway question

Just for closure, internet searches led me to DIY solutions like wooden blocks and felling wedges and commercial solutions that mostly pointed toward Torklift "Stable Loads". I tried the Stable Loads for just the upper overload springs and that brought down the amplitude of the rocking...
