T-Mobile and SpaceX announce plan to have phones work with Starlink satellites

Interesting article rubberlegs. I’m wondering how Apple, or anyone else, is going to connect with satellites. Do they already have satellites up in low orbit? I haven’t heard anything about that…

    It's Spring...somewhere

Wow! You really didn't get much snow (relatively). Well we're not over Winter yet.

    It's Spring...somewhere

Ski please post up some pictures of your tractor at work when you get a chance. It brings back memories of when I was a kid and we had huge (for me anyways) snowstorms in NH.

    It's Spring...somewhere

The national news is reporting a major snow storm in the Sierra's. I hope those who live there survive without issues

So you want to work remotely? Cell "boosting" and more

Very thorough explanation of your progress. Thanks for sharing! Other developments in this field include the “connecting” of cell phones with near earth orbiting satellites. This is in the early stages and so far only available in the US but there are plans to roll this out worldwide in the...

Thanks! Everything I’ve read recently is pointing to what you said.

    Frustrating interaction with FWC

Heck I have a 40L and have taken 6 week trips with it for myself and my wife. It may just take a little “rethinking” of how you keep things cold. For example…we love to have a G&T at the end of the day but found that only keeping 2 small cans of the tonic water in the fridge (one for each of us)...

    Diesel in Baja.

Bringing this topic back up in case there have been any further direct experiences with obtaining ULSD in Baja. If you’ve been down there recently please update this thread as “The Boss” has given me a directive to find out. Thanks in advance!

    Pop-up campers with 5'-7' cabovers

Don’t know if this is too late Vic but as stated above Hallmark has a great N/S option. I think it looks great on crew cab trucks.

I think I remember seeing that exact same puffin on that exact same rock when we were there! Haha!

    Airbags vs new leaf springs?

Check these out. It might be what you want. I used Airlift bags on my Gladiator and have been happy with them. https://www.airliftcompany.com/shop/59561/

    Doing Dishes

This is the way I was shown on a 10 day rafting trip many years ago and it has worked well for us. 1. Use a paper towel to wipe down as much as possible (can burn the PT if you’re allowed fires in the evening campfire) 2. We have 3 small collapsable bins. A. The first one gets warm water...

    lowering tire pressure

What truck do you have and what is the recommended tire pressure for it? In “General” terms you should be able to reduce your tire pressure by about 50% if you drive slow enough, but I would try a little higher pressure first, maybe 25% reduction.

    campers with bathrooms

The cassette toilet in our Hallmark rarely stinks. I can only think of one time when we had an odor and that was because it was very full! Full disclosure, it is used primarily for night time visits and we use public facilities when ever possible which seems to work for us.

Wandering from Tennesse to Alaska 2023

Foy not speaking for the OP but the Haul Road is notorious for getting flats due to the fact that the AK DOT uses shot rock as gravel which has some very sharp edges. Interestingly there is a rock quarry approximately every 50 to 100 miles up along the Dalton where they would produce the gravel...

Wandering from Tennesse to Alaska 2023

Great trip so far. I had to get my oil changed in Fairbanks and also had a check engine light go off just before crossing into Alaska. The Ford dealer in Fairbanks went out of their way to get me back on the road asap. Good people. Thanks for taking us along.

So you want to work remotely? Cell "boosting" and more

Another option that I had the opportunity to try is Starlink. We went on a research expedition to Antarctica earlier this year and the ship had 2 Starlink antennas. I was able to have email and video conference as far South as 72 Degrees (although that was somewhat iffy at that point)...

    Cell/Wifi Booster Question

I use two different antennas depending on my situation. When we’re driving I have the small magnetic antenna that we attach to the roof of the truck. When we stop for any appreciable time I have the larger antenna that I attach to an “L” bracket on the right side of the camper. It is above the...

    Cell/Wifi Booster Question

We have a Weboost and have been very happy with it. As I’m sure you know you can’t create a signal out of thin air but if you have any signal at all it will boost it. https://www.weboost.com/boosters/overland

Shock Absorbers For the Extra Weight of a Camper

Great topic and one that I am woefully uneducated on. Just as a point of reference shortly after I bought my F-350 I felt the ride wasn’t properly damped. On the advice of my local shop I replaced the OEM shocks with Bilstein 5100’s and have been satisfied for over 75K miles. They come with a...
