    Front Dinette Cushion Remodel

In bed mode the seventh cushions acts as a back support so we can read and watch movies sitting up. Cushions have quality 3" foam and removable flannel covers. I built this about 18 months ago and have used it several trips. It has fixed all my complaints about the factory setup.

    Front Dinette Cushion Remodel

The back supports are made from 0.5" thick aspen. Light weight and store tight against the wall when not needed.

    Front Dinette Cushion Remodel

Now I can get into the storage with one hand, and I don't need to move any cushions to do it.

The lower cushions are split to allow access to the storage without needing to remove anything.

    Front Dinette Cushion Remodel

I have been frustrated with the front dinette on my Grandby since I got it. The factory cushions are heavy and sized so that it is difficult to convert the dinette, which I have to do everyday traveling with two kids. They make it frustrating to access the largest storage compartments on the...

Here is how to prevent getting locked out of camper

Thanks for sharing this. I have never liked that deadbolt. I never use it and don't usually carry the key, but have been concerned about it bouncing locked or my youngest child locking it with me outside the camper. I took a few minutes and removed it today.

    suggested electrical pass through?

I would drill my own hole. Run the wire outside the floor pack and come in directly to the battery compartment. That way you won't have to route the wire through storage compartments where it could be damaged. The factory does this with front dinnets where the battery compartment is in the...

    Building a Thinsulate thermal pack

I am still really pleased with it, and it is holding up well. I had hope that it would reduce the amount of condensation in cold weather, but we still have nearly as much. The nylon doesn't absorb much water. In cold weather we just reach in through the window openings and wipe the walls down...

    FWC Inverter Hardwired Options

I have a 300w victron wired straight to the battery with an inline fuse. It has worked fine. I split wired the 120v outlet so the top plug is still connected to shore power and the bottom plug is connected to the inverter.

    ?’s about options on a custom order 2020 Ford F-350 6.2L gasser

I would not get the goose neck prep, unless you plan on towing a goose neck/5th wheel. No to the wheel well liners, it is better to have more access to wash the under body. No to the backup alarm, unless corporate safety forces you ;) Actually, I would skip everything on the unsure list; it...

    New Battery

I replaced my factory batteries with Victron Super Cycle batteries. They are rated for 300 cycles of 100% discharge, this allowed me to go with a smaller ah battery, shed some weight, gain some room in the battery compartment, and keep all my charging equipment. I sized my bank to routinely...

    Battery drain from recharging laptop

I use a 300w inverter that is hard wired to run electronics and charge laptops in my Grandby. I don't see why you would have any problems using the 12v plug in the camper if your inverter setup works fine with the 12v plug inside truck.

Camper batteries drop when truck is running

I second Rando's statements. I would recommend spending a few days running everything you want to run, including the fridge all night. If the battery voltage is above 12.0v in the mornings, before your solar comes on, you're good to go.

    Solar butt connection gone bad

Nice test. You are right that the resistance would increase with more load. More amps causes more heat which causes more resistance, kind of a positive feed back loop.

    Solar butt connection gone bad

A bad connection like that would have to have load on it to measure its resistance. It will always test good without load, i.e. with an ohmmeter. Its resistance would have to be calculated based off the voltage drop across it with load applied. If the rest of your wire and connections at the...

    Grandby dinette table stabilization

I don't remember, it's been a while. There are some on eBay, search for: self storing folding table leg.

    Building a Thinsulate thermal pack

This would definitely not be fire resistant since this nylon has no FR treatment to make it self extinguishing. I considered this when I built it and decided it was acceptable for my personal risk level, you may decide differently. There would have to be a large fire on the stove to reach the...

    Atwood water heater run time?

These Attwood water heaters have thermostats. They are non adjustable and calibrated really hot. If I remember correctly it is 140 degrees. This is to get more usable shower temperature water out of a little 6 gallon heater. Mine gets hot enough for use after about 15-20 minutes. I never...

    Renogy 100Watt Flexible Solar Kit

That kit looks like it would do what you want. I agree with knoxswift, folding would be easier to store. These flexible panels can't be folded or rolled up, so it would be awkward to store in the camper. I would suggest permanently mounting your solar system. That way it is always working...

    Building a Thinsulate thermal pack

Just got back from a two week trip that took us through Nashville, Savannah, Cocoa Beach, Orlando and back home. I am pleased with the performance of the thermal pack so far, we managed to stay comfortable the entire trip even with daily highs in the upper 90's. The 5k btu AC unit would cool...

Highest current flow you have seen?

I have never seen anything close to 60 amps. I have 300 watts of solar and normally see a max charging amps around 20. I have never checked it in full sun with the truck running, but I would be surprised to see more than 30 amps.

    rubber trim molding

Just got home from a 2500 mile trip in the southeast with plenty of highway speed and 95-100 degree heat without any trouble. Shortening the length of the moulding has resolved the problem.
