2017 ATC Get Together (Everyone is Welcome) July 27-30

Me and the Bobster and my 12 year old and much modified Granby FWC should be there then :p ! By the way, anyone planning to head out to that general area within that NE Ca/SC Oregon/NW Nevada Triangle before the event drop a line here if you want, because depending on how wet it is out there, I should be out there somewhere on and off from now till then. My friends up in Alturas say the roads in the Devils Garden are okay right now, so probably head up there soon and make a my usual loop north then east and then south. Boy it sure is nice being retired and living here in the high desert and being able just to follow my nose here it may take me.

Sure Smoke, rub it in. Retired and loving it!
Good for you, and your in a perfect stretch of country, mountains to desert, to do some real roaming. Do you ever see the wild horses there in the devils garden?
Well I am almost done with a 6 week rental rehab. Taking a couple of weeks now to wander the blue mountains and perhaps hells canyon. Was hoping to join y'all but heading the opposite direction, west coast Vancouver island for a couple weeks of coastal paddling.
Have a great time in the hi desert

Im a Strong maybe. Don't own a ATC anymore but I was one of Marty's very first customers when they were building them out of the Garage back in 07. Great group of guys at ATC!

I'm a probably not. I have the rest of the week off and they're not likely to give me any more time off. Working seven days a week so even the weekend is unlikely.

Sorry to say that we'll not be able to make it. :(

Instead, I get to make the journey to the mythological underworld. Family reunion on my mother-in-law's side of the family is the same weekend. A command appearance on my part is required for the maintenance of domestic tranquility.

I Wish y'all a rip-roarin good time.

I'll give a shout out as I meet up with Charon and cross the River Styx, making sure to pat ole Cerberus on his heads on my way to my appointment with Hades and the gang. ;)

Au revior,
Tuff Guy

Looks like I'm a for sure going to make it. I also spoke with Marty at ATC this morning and he's going to make it. Plans are he & I will be coming up together on the 26th. See everyone in a few weeks!

Really dissapointed I can't make it, though I will be in the Owyhee canyonlands , and that should be a great time with plenty of desolation to be had. I've never been. Do have a great time !!

Bob-keep me posted on when you guys head up! Since you are coming through my country (and depending where I am playing) might have a chance for a meet up somewhere on the way up. My "Bob" was wondering if Marty is bringing that nice girl dog of his? Speaking of dogs, any new canine members of your family yet?

A note to anyone planning on coming up-fire danger is again real high this year, the cheat grass is real dry, and we are having lots of red flag warnings and fires up here this year, real dry, above average temps, high winds, so check the on fire conditions before you head up. BLM/USFS have issued no target shooting rule. Another fairly new rule-carry a pick ax along with your usual gear!

Don, Plan is to leave on the 26th. Heading up 80 to Winnemucca, to 95, then 140, so don't think we'll be anywhere near your digs.
If you'd like to catch up on the road that would be great, but have no idea your route.
No dog yet, maybe in August. Don't know about Marty's dog. Keep me posted...

Bob

If you go that way make sure you gas up in Winnemucca-- last time I was by Denio,it was closed. Fields, north of there was open, and you can get gas and have a milk shake too! By the way, the turn-off from 140 to the CG is marked by a sign that says it goes to the refuge HQ. It might be worth detour/quick look/stop at the Pine Forest Range as you head north on 140-been meaning to go there for a long time but have not heard how the roads are now. Been thinking I might head by there on the way home after the meet, but you know how us retired people are, may just follow my nose if someone has a better idea :p !

Me, no freeways, especially 80. I'm going north from here on 395 to Alturas, then take 299 over the Warners to Cederville, gas up and either go east then north on 34 (gravel road) and take the back way into the Sheldon until I hit 140. From Cederville, instead, I might just go north to Fort Bidwell, then North(gravel road) to Adell, gas up then take 140 on to Virgin Valley. Not sure when I'm leaving yet, or even from where. I'm supposed to be up in the Devils Garden right now but my plans changed due to the weather. Might head up there right after the 4th for a week or so. Weather is real hot-mid 90's here for us, but you people from Sac are used to heat right! Let you know my plans later.

Adel will have gas (should), and I saw a note on OBOL (Oregon Birders On Line) that Denio was once again open. Be safe and call ahead to make sure if you're planning on gassing in either place.
Edit: I just spoke to Denio Junction, and they have both gas and diesel. 775-304-1783

That's good to hear that there is gas at Denio again now , but you still need to carry a back up in that country-or want to have a milkshake at Fields! High Desert watching/playing time is getting closer-need to hear the "kayote"s again!

If I were to make it I'd probably go that way also. Such nice gravel roads. I'm still holding out some slight hope I can make it. My supervisor just quit. I have no idea what to expect from the new one but you never know. Riley would sure like to go, he's still upset he didn't get to go to Antelope Lake.

Just a quick reminder, It's week after next. Think about bringing a popup tent to stick in the ground and reserve your spot in the dust if you want to go wandering around the area. Hopefully we can get the area up above the shower house for the gathering. Bathing suits, you get to swim with the bass and mosquito fish.

I can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but a potluck might be nice for Saturday (7/29). It doesn't have to be fancy, but if there are any gourmet chefs that are attending, well I won't object.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there. I'm NOT a gourmet cook so I'll bring a couple pies for dessert.

Define gourmet. I seem to recall you cooking large amounts of bacon for a group once. That's pretty hard to top.
