The Alaska State Ferry System may be shut down by the end of this month (June). The State legislature has not approved this year's budget so the fery system is making preperations to shut down at the end of the month.
If a shut down does occur some routes will end a few days prior to the end of the month and some will go until a few days in July.
I had a trip booked from Pelican Alaska to Juneau onm the 25th of June and that run has already been cancelled. The ferry only goes to Pelican twice a month so some scrambling was in order.
We now will fly to Juneau.
Not sure if the shut down is because of the budget issue or mechanical issues.
We are going to Pelican for a three day fishing charter..
We are scheduled to be on the June 26 ferry Juneau to Skagway so will see how that goes. If we have to spend some time in Juneau ok, I will just not show up for work..
I suspect we are seeing some political manouvering here. The ferry system is very important to the State.
