What is the general rule for traveling with the camper jacks? Do most people keep them attached to the camper or just take them off and leave them at home?

Thanks

Unless you have need to take your camper off of the truck when camping, then best to leave them at home. There was a fellow on here a while ago that got his jacks tangled into vegetation and kept going -- resulting in severe damage to his camper. Another fellow hit a mailbox. Both campers appeared unusable after that.

When I had my camper installed by FWC in 2014, I was advised to remove the jacks unless I was going to unload the camper. It made an impression on me when the installer said that it would likely exceed $2000 if someone tapped a jack when trying to pull into an adjacent parking space because corners were really tough to repair.

Who was I to argue with a factory service tech.

Good points. I tend to fish in wooded areas that have a lot of brush on the sides of the narrow roads. Just was concerned that I was not seeing the bigger picture that might say to carry the jacks. So I will remove them when I finally pick up the camper in a week.

Thanks

I leave my camper jacks at home. I don’t want to catch them on anything, and also need to save weight. I haul my ATC Bobcat on a Toyota Tacoma.

Had some time today and finally took a couple pictures of the truck and camper. So far so good. I like it and notice there are no jacks mounted. They are in the barn. I thank all for the input, as always, you are very helpful.

Our FWC dealer in Salt Lake City would not even let us leave the dealership with the jacks on, they removed them and put them inside. I did take them along one time to Baja with me and put them on the camper at camp and unloaded the camper. I had some plywood under them and crossed 2' x 4' pieces of 3/4" plywood to support the floor of the camper. It turned out to be an adventure trying to reload the camper and get the truck under it straight in the sand. It would have worked better on concrete or pavement, but I didn't go to Baja to camp on the pavement. Needless to say, I haven't taken the jacks since. BTW I carried the jacks in my off-road trailer.
