Winter Solstice 2015 and on to Winter!

It hit 63° today at the official airport weather station in Redmond, OR -- the first 60+ day of the year.
More of the same forecast for the next few days.

You guys are killing me. Highs in the teens and 40-50 mph winds blowing our snow around here. But hey, it's winter. :)

Not quite as warm in Bend, mid-60s, but warm enough that I was out and about in just a T-shirt this afternoon, which is unusual for central Oregon early February.

(Well, not JUST a T-shirt...shoes, pants, etc, too.)

Al you can solve that.
Just hippity hop it out here.
We'll save you some sun.
Sorry we can't send it to you.
Want further salt in the "winter wound"? Watch the AT&T golf this week from Pebble Beach, and they will gloat about all the nice weather here. Have a good time in the cold it won't last forever.

Frank, good idea! We are hopping a plane to SFO in a week for a short visit with our son. Thanks for the good thoughts. We actually like winter but wouldn't mind skipping the extreme versions we get here sometimes.

Great,I think you should still have good weather next week.
If you get a chance take a day trip to our area,Point Lobos SP is really nice now.
Actually saw a Bald Eagle there yesterday. The first we have ever seen in the 35+ years we have going there.

Yesterday and today set new record high temperatures in Bend for the dates -- both days in the mid-60s.
Normal highs for these dates are about 20° cooler.

All that nice snow has melted  and we will hit 58 today. Not record breaking heat yet, but a bit late for an Indian summer, and they say maybe in a week or two winter will return (they hope). Well I guess I'll just have to suck it up and go sit on my newly snow free rear deck and enjoy :p the sun.

Cool! Winter makes a comeback. We on the other hand are looking forward to inheriting those warm temps- mid-40°s forecast for the weekend. :)

I am not as optimistic as the weather service.
Still seems real warm here on the coast with not much cloud cover.
BUT the storm system hasn't passed yet.
Would be nice to get more rain.

Yesterday I received information on the numerous snow surveys for February 1st in our area of the Sierra Nevada. The average is 130% of normal. That is great news. But from my personal perspective this has been a pretty "normal" year in regards to number of storms and storm intensity. Thus far I've not seen evidence of an effect of a Godzilla El Nino, at least not in our neck of the woods. I'm not complaining either way. Let's hope at least we stay with an above average snowpack the rest of the season.
After a great Feb 1st report of a snowpack 130% of normal, the storms dropped off. Report today is the mountain snowpack around us stands at 85% of normal for March 1st.

We're not giving up hope as a wet pattern is predicted to return -
Code:
...WET WEATHER RETURNS TO INTERIOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA...

AFTER AN EXTENDED DRY PERIOD, IT APPEARS MARCH WILL BEGIN WET, AS
NWS FORECAST MODELS ARE SHOWING A SERIES OF PACIFIC STORMS MOVING
THROUGH OVER THE NEXT WEEK, AND POSSIBLY LONGER. CURRENTLY, A
WEAK STORM IS TRACKING THROUGH AND ONLY EXPECTED TO BRING SOME
LIGHT PRECIPITATION NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80. A WETTER SYSTEM IS
FORECAST LATE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, WHICH LOOKS TO PRODUCE MORE
WIDESPREAD LIGHT TO MODERATE PRECIPITATION. AFTER THAT, A SERIES
OF WET STORMS ARE EXPECTED LATE FRIDAY INTO NEXT WEEK. ALTHOUGH
SPECIFICS ABOUT TIMING AND PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS ARE UNCERTAIN
THIS FAR OUT, IT APPEARS PERIODS OF SIGNIFICANT RAIN AND MOUNTAIN
SNOW ARE LIKELY THROUGH NEXT WEEK. PRECIPITATION COULD BE ENOUGH
TO WARRANT ISSUANCE OF WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES. PERSONS WITH
UPCOMING TRAVEL PLANS OR RESIDENTS WHO LIVE NEAR FLOOD PRONE AREAS
SHOULD STAY INFORMED OF THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION.

Good weather returning!
