RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grade 8 carriage bolts for Ride Rites

They don't make them. Carriage bolts don't have enough head strength to be made in the G8 version. There were some made with a KS headstamp years ago, but they were recalled. As was posted above, go with G8 bolts, and don't forget to buy G8 nuts and washers while you're at it. If you've got any...

Bilsteins for me too. I drive fast on dirt roads (the shocks help make it safer) and never had one overheat. Buy the HD models or better.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furnace current draw?

I have a 87 FWC Blazer camper. The furnace motor had been squealing like a banshee, so I took it apart and lubricated the bearings. That quieted the squeal. Also while I had the furnace apart, I thoroughly cleaned it out. Last weekend we went camping in the mountains. The temperature was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Atwood Everest Star: Berkon Industries

Weird. I JUST found your post, after buying the exact same furnace from the same company. I'm replacing an older Hydro Flame OP 8012PF in my camper. I installed it tonight and it works perfectly. One word of advice - fire it up outside the camper or the stink from the parts getting hot for the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Coffee maker?

I am from the old school... Farberware Yosemite X2. Im use a GSI Cinical percolaror, and fill my thermos with what I don't drink. Cleanup is a tiny bit more involved, but there's less to throw away, too.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Campfire Alternative

I also think its very much a communal thing. I rarely make a campfire when I'm solo. X2. I usually don't have a fire, so I can see the sky better. When I'm with others, I will, but usually small and in my 18" BBQ grill. Charcoal makes a reasonable fire, too. After I cook on the grill I've...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Southern Utah Mid-may - any takers?

I'll be between Moab and Moneymint Valley between 13 and 22 May. There will be three rigs, five people. We'll prolly make Cottonwood CG (Comb Wash) our base for a few days. I wouldn't mind meeting others, and neither would the others.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Kodiak Tent for sale

How come you don't want it? I don't need it any longer. I had a Slide in camper that was too big for my truck and rotten, so I got rid of it. I still like to camp, so I bought the Kodiak to use. Shortly thereafter, I found a nice smaller slide in that serves me perfectly. Don't need the tent...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West propane tank info

Not sure why you would want to use the little cylinders when you have a big tank. Refilling the little cylinders is not legal according to the department of transportation, not that I've ever heard of anyone getting in trouble over it. The zodi and the mr.buddy both can be run off the big tank...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pett Vs. Wet

I've used a 1 1/2 gallon bucket for ten years now. I put a trash bag in it, and sprinkle some gelling deoderizer before I do the duty. This year I bought a Luggable Loo, and I'll prolly use the same bag/deoderizer procedure. I'll take the LL seat off and replace it with a 5 gallon bucket lid to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where are your favorite campgrounds?

Yes, Wanderer, the Green River Lakes is a nice CG, there are some great hikes into the Winds from there. Bears were in camp when I was there. I'll keep your other suggestions in mind for my next trip up your way. Babione is pretty tough to get to but can be done so long as you go slow. Great...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire Chains

Why did you buy two sets? Are you going to need all 4 tires chained when you get into a holy crap situation? You should ALWAYS chain up all four tires on a 4x4 for safety and to prevent damaging the drive train. Chains increase the axle ratio by making the wheel "bigger". If you only chain up...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West "Manual" Battery Isolator

I use a continuous duty solenoid for twenty years to isolate my batteries. It's simple, cheap, and doesn't require me to remember to unhook it. Until you can isolate the batts, your solution sounds like a reasonable one, so long as you're not discharging your battery below 12 volts. And remember...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What Do You All Tend To Use For Maps?

First post, hello all. I use a combination of Bureau of Land Managment, DeLorme, and USFS maps. I also have used National Geographic maps. I like the BLM maps because they have excellent land ownership status.
