RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Road Trip Resources

Used freecampsites, and since I am usually too far out for developed camps, use mostly common sense in the BLM areas of the desert where I explore. , and when I was using the big truck/camper, used Free and Low cost Campgrounds, a Camping America publication.

Yes, there is a very nice campground up the road at "Hole In The Wall". Also horse camping, and disbursed down closer to Hwy 40/Rt 66. When you come to this area, do not miss visiting the Schoolhouse, at Goffs, for more info than your brain can absorb, Kelso Station also has a small museum, as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How in the world to camp in the Midwest and avoid ticks?

Also...for the bite ad itch of mosquitos, and chiggers, use Vaporub. You will smell like a eucalyptus, but it does help with the itch. I imagine it is the mint, eucalyptus oil, and rosemary oil.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How in the world to camp in the Midwest and avoid ticks?

I have Permethrin by the gallon, as I have horses, goats, and three dogs!! It does repel flies and ticks, as well as kills some other critters, but do not get it on your lips or tender skin. Avon's "Skin So Soft", has also been a wonder for folks who cannot tolerate DEET, or other nasty stuff...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Memorial weekend?

Yeah, my Dad served in WW-2, Korea, and Viet nam. He like so many of the "Greatest Generation", would not talk about the theaters he was in. I found out later after bugging him a lot, he was at the Battle of Midway, the invasion of Okinawa, and Occupation f Forces of Japan. Also was on the USS...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central California Coast Camping et Cetera?

I recommend the Montana De Oro camping also. We take our horses, and camp at the south end in Hazard canyon, and then ride all the park from Diablo to the mountain top. If you take a mountain bike, it has so many trails you cannot see them all in one weekend too! I also second the raccoons, as...

I too would vote for the North rim area for great solitude, and even some wild and crazy areas along the rim over looking the Green River!! Or, maybe the "Goosenecks area?

I have been following your adventures both on the blog, and here. Lots of good stuff about the Apache Trail. I plan to run it come April, in my ram/w truck camper. ( Huge camper, on huge truck!! ) I also wondered if you were planning on any looksee's around the north side of the GC, and if you...

Sorry to seem to pirate another trip, but thought I was cool. Ok, I did see where you had spent some money on other stuff, and was still not cognizant that you were putting the insurance, and camera there. I had just lumped the overall cost on our trip which included admission to Crazy Horse...

On your chart of expenses, is that per month of expense?? Or is it not being read correctly by me. When my Wife and I took off last year for a 7 state tour, we did not come anywhere near that much in cost. We had left So. Cali., from our home in the high desert, went thru Vegas into Utah, where...

I'd be in for a dollar, to save a dime! Perhaps near Benton Crossing, or out in the Mono/Craters? Or, perhaps in Panamints? Or, even the Trona Pinnacles!

WOW! What a turkey for not respecting the environment, and possible killing of protected species, like tortoise, and lizards, as well as tearing up roads so the "Gestapo" has more reasons to shut out the wandering kind. If you want to scream across the desert, go to Saudi Arabia, or maybe get...

My Wild dreams; Did you manage to go up to the Santa Barbara Mission? It is one of the most beautiful, along with the San Clemnte Mission, and the gardens are filled with flowers, and especially the roses! RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Overnighting at Walmart?

I have found sometimes going to an industrial area, with auto repair shops, can be a good place. Arrive if you can before they close, and let them know what you want to do. then let them know you will be like an "extra guard on duty", and will call for the Coppers if anything looks amiss. No...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Randsburg Rally and more, Randsburg or Bust

I and a couple others, are heading back to the El Paso's to explore this Friday! We are staying at the Red Rock Canyon Campground at Ricardo. I am taking my truck, and BIG camper, so will have a lot of good vittles to eat, and plenty of libations, if anyone is in the area, "come on down"!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping and exploring the El paso Mtns

The ghost town of Randsburg is about 25 miles south of Ridgecrest California, right along the 395 highway. It lies near the El Paso Mtns, and along the Garlock quake fault line. The gold mine, "Yellow Aster", has been going and producing for over 100 years! As I said, it is in a condition of...
