    Used Camper Alert Thread

It’s a late 80,s/early 90’s camper. FWC Hasnt used brown interior & almond sides since at least 1998. In addition it will need jack brackets and jacks. Look closely, thing uses the “tripod of death” cable jacks. Pretty sure those were obsolete by 1995. Still looks like a solid start for someone...

LED bulbs vs. Out of the box LED lights

I've used the ones very similar to what accrete posted. Aside from the obvious power savings which is precious in the backcountry - they're hard to read by. For this reason I still keep one incandescent bulb in the (switchable, 2-bulb) fixture over the bed. If I'm using the light to read by, it...

Help! Camper Collision Repair in Portland

Is the camper insured through an auto insurance policy, or is it covered under your homeowners/renters/etc? Do you know? I am asking because you may need to get your own insurer involved to chase them around a while. Please do not allow a shop unaffiliated with FWC work on it no matter how hard...

    What do I need?

Bill; You should have your brake system checkedd over by a competent mechanic prior to installing the bobcat. At very minimum you will need be needing a good set of load range E tires and helper springs or airbags. I would start with helper springs because they're cheap and don't require any...

87 Tiger GT provan in Bend Mechanical issues aside, this van looks to be in really nice condition. I always thought it would be cool to have one of these but I just don't have the garage space for any projects at this time. http://bend.craigslist.org/rvs/4012997308.html It would be a fairly...

Mounting a four wheel on a composite tacoma

The best rubber I have found for this task is commonly used for the floor of livestock stalls, sold at ranch and farm supply stores. I don't know what it's called but you'll know it when you see it.

    Ebbetts Pass

Literally spent hundreds of nights up Ebbets Pass in my lifetime, and am fortunate to have lived nearby for many years. It is indeed a very special place with lots of exploring to be done, lots of pioneer and gold rush day remnants too. One of my old dogs is buried up in those mountains, under a...

    Skiing, Biking, and FWC Factory

Monitor Valley Nevada; Potts Hot Springs, Petroglyphs, Diana's Punchbowl, Spencers, Toquima Cave. Awesome. Ancient Bristlecone Forest via Fish Lake Valley from the East down to Bishop. Awesome drive but I think that might be closed this time of year. 120 from Benton to Lee Vining is a really...

Carrizo Plain , California, join us if you like...

This is a very cool offer of you Gene Rubin. No spot taken, though I do want to wander down to baja some day and getting tips from someone with such a wealth of knowledge about traveling in that area would be invaluable. We did see some pretty spectacular humpbacks in Maui a few weeks ago...

    Wierd camper "fitment" question...

With a front mounted fuel cell or toolbox, I think you would probably experience turbulence issues and tons of cab noise. Yes, it will clear duals with the extended brackets on the front jacks.

toying with the idea of truck camper

And in fairness - the drawbacks I've found with FWC ownership? risk of damage to truck and/or camper exists everytime you take the camper on/off (which is not often, but still..) no pass-thru storage capacity is minimal, so you've gotta travel VERY light compared to a 1 ton van roof storage is...

toying with the idea of truck camper

lots of good replies here. As a former sportsmobile and westy (several) owner also, I tend to think along similar lines as coguzzi. I've also owned a tent trailer, several scamps, etc. Pretty much every configuration going at some point in time or another. Sportsmobiles are plush and...

2002 Toyota Tacoma TRD V6 Advice

I agree with what Argonaut said. Towing anything is really pushing it. I chose airbags over a custom spring pack because of the drivability with the camper off. With it on, it certainly doesn't drive like it would with deavers, but was a good compromise for me. If you discover the bags aren't...

    Wow. Old school custom FWC

I'll bet the gas mileage is really terrible in this. VERY cool though indeed. There's another one of these sitting for sale in someone's yard in Kings beach CA but I think it was over $10K. Been sitting out there a LONG time.

    02 Tundra front axle replacement

Good for you frank, this should be a simple job. You will need a 36mm 1/2" drive socket for the axle nut, have a friend stand on the brake while you bust it loose. 175ft pounds here. Buy new dust and outer wheel seals. If you try to reuse them they sometimes get ruined anyways, so that would...

Seeking Opinions on Refridgerators and Truck Suspensions

As far as airbags vs leaf springs, they are designed to perform two totally different tasks. Airbags are for load leveling, springs are for load carrying. In some cases you may need both, but one should really not be used in lieu of the other. EDIT: it can also be challenging trying to figure...

Seeking Opinions on Refridgerators and Truck Suspensions

I have owned and used plenty of 2 and 3 way RV fridges and will tell you that they are both excellent configurations but it depends on how the owner will use them to determine which is "better" for your application. With 2 golf cart batteries, an efficient DC fridge such as the Engel or Dometic...

Looking for jacks, is Reico the only option?

Reico isnt the only option, but they are the most common option. FYI there are manual (screw and spring) jacks and there are hydraulic ones. I recommend the mechanical ones because they don't need rebuilding or servicing. I've never seen one fail yet.

    Winter "East Side" Recommendations Please

If you can get back into long valley hot springs there's plenty of camping in the hills between the springs, the highway, and hot creek rd. I have camped there often in winter. There are usually a few overnighters out there scattered about but plenty of room for everybody. not sure what the...
