RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Cougar & F250 in Montana- Sold

Would you sell the camper seperate from the truck. I already have a Ford 150 and I'm looking for a lightweight popup. Lisa I'd consider it but you will need to do some homework. My 97 is the old body/bed style, I think 95 was the last year for the F150. If you have a newer truck you will...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Cougar & F250 in Montana- Sold

I'm getting the urge to add a sport bike to my MC stable. Price now $10k for both, $7k camper only It is with a certain amount of regret that I'm putting my 09 ATC Cougar and 97 Ford 250 up for sale, but I'm just not using it like I was. The camper was ordered as a shell with: 3 way refridge...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Found myself in a bad situation today

I'll second the rec on the PLB. I'm usually by myself both with the camper and on my motorcycle on the NFS roads. If I get in serious trouble I want someone there fast.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Last minute recomendations for California to Montana trip

I personally find the burned out parts of the mountains fascinating, especially as there has been a couple of years for the growth to return. With the incredibly wet Spring/early Summer we've had I think you will find plenty to enjoy. There has been logging in the burned sections but there is...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

Thanks for all of the nice responses folks. Yes, it is indeed a great way to travel if you are flexible and can roll with changes. Like I mentioned, I had to make last minute changes due to flooding in the mid-west and might have had a long bus ride and midnight boarding in Spokane. A website...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

May 8, 2011- Home again with no problems. watched the sunset over the Columbia from bed then up at 5:30 to look for wildlife on the way in from Libby MT, no luck. Got into Whitefish about 10 minutes early. My only worry on the whole trip was that the LA-Portland train is known to be late and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

6:00 PM- Train was able to make up the late running and we arrived in Portland on time at 3:40. Another nice thing about sleeper service is that they have separate waiting lounges and boarding at some stations including Portland. Running along the Columbia now right on the water’s edge and it...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

May 7, 2011- I think the trick to getting a good night’s sleep on the train is to be very tired, no problems last night. Went to the Parlor Car for coffee at 6:15 AM just in time for Mt. Shasta. Being in the mountains again makes me want to be back home though I’m looking forward to running up...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

12:30 PM, Oxnard- So I expected to see very poor neighborhoods and industrial areas- oh and strip clubs, which I didn’t expect but makes sense (at least 6 from one side of the train through LA). But what really surprised me were the number of new residential developments backed right up to the...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

May 6, 2011- Very good dinner last night, veggie lasagna with iceberg free salad. Breakfast was rather pedestrian. I slept reasonably well, though there is a vibration from train movement. It was cool laying in bed watching the sky darken over the NM hills as we rolled along. Bed quality was...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

May 5, 2011- I didn’t want to haul my bag around while checking the rental car at the airport and taking a taxi to the station so I swung by to leave it. The attendants recognized me and were happy to hold my bag for me for a couple of hours. Try that at the airport with a carry on. After a...

So I wasn't sure about this but it seems like there are enough "journey not the destination" folks here that I Thought I'd throw this out there. It's a trip report but, since it wasn't in the camper, I thought I'd put it here. DD, feel free to move or delete this if you want. Since flying has...

Barko- I don't know if you are aware of ADVrider.com but they have a section called Old's Cool with 370 different threads. If you are looking for parts or just want to show it off that is a good place. Your bike is sweet, good luck on the restoration.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New Additions to the Stable

Those Hustlers were THE cool bike back in the day. I've always lusted after one of the Kawasaki triple. I rode a friend's 750 and it was the scariest bike I've ever ridden. The power curve was like the Tetons, flat as can be then Wham!! Probably good that I haven't found one.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New Additions to the Stable

I've been riding motorcycles since 1963 and it seems that I am definitely on the downward slope of the displacement curve. 250 cc is just about right for the riding I do now especially given the number of suicidal deer around here. I recently picked up these two wee beasties and am enjoying...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How to carry second spare tire?

My 97 ex-Forest Service Ford had the traditional spare-in-the-bed set up and of course the stock mount was rusted to hell so I went with the 2" front receiver solution. Doesn't really impact the sight lines and hopefully it will add a little extra protection when (in Montana it's not if) I nail...

8-18 Conclusions, Random Observations and Stats This was truly a wonderful trip and I highly recommend it to anyone with the time and $. It wasn’t cheap, ferries were $615 though I had to pay extra for being about 5” over 7’ in height. I was barely under the 20’ length limit so no extra...

Tue 8-17 385 mi Nice night, quiet and reasonably private though likely not on a weekend. Decided I was road weary and to head for home, about 350 mi. The drive over through New Denver spectacular as always, then quite pretty through Castlegar to Creston except: all morning I watched the...

Mon 8-16 385 mi I didn’t plan on going so far today but I couldn’t find the spot at 320 mi and then my intermittent charging issue popped up big time. When I first got the camper the ammeter would sometimes go to just barely in the normal range and the battery light would flicker. This...
