RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Yosemite Winter Trip

We heard that people were ice skating Tenaya Lake when we were in DV. Lot's of folks took advantage of 120 being open to cross the Sierra. Apparently used ice skates can't be found anywhere since there's been a run on them in this dry but cold stretch of winter. Thanks for posting, Roger. I...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Monitor Valley, NV

A call to the Austin Ranger District office confirmed what many said here, some snow on the ground and changeable conditions. It looks like we'll head up to the north coast which is our usual spring destination. Who knows? After Friday's tsunami it may look very different from my last visit.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Monitor Valley, NV

I'm looking to get away for a few days sometime between now and April 10. I'd like to keep it within 6 hours of the Sacramento area. The info I've found here on Monitor Valley looks interesting but I see the elevations are generally over 7000 feet. Does anyone know what the likely conditions...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Quick Midewwk trip to Pinnacles Nationla Monument

Was that from the High Peaks Trail? Yep. That portion of the High Peaks Trail marked "steep and narrow" on the park service map offered the best vantage points. Condor #40 landed on a rock outcrop about 50' off the trail.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Quick Midewwk trip to Pinnacles Nationla Monument

This discussion of Pinnacles prompted me to get off my butt and go see it for myself. Thanks everyone. The hiking was excellent, the condors spectacular, and empty campgrounds are by far the best.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Garage Door Opening

I have an ATC Bobcat on a Frontier. The camper is 52 1/2 inches from the base of the floor pack to the top of the standard roof vent. My garage door opening is 83 1/2 inches high. If I dump the air from the airbags the roof vent clears the opening by 3/8 inch.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West ARE YOU STILL BUYING BP/ARCO FUEL

I have a hard time faulting BP in this disaster because they have only done what corporations have always done, get away with as much as you can for as long as you can in order to maximize profits for your shareholders. My anger is directed at our federal government. At Bush/Cheney for cutting...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Trails.com

Interesting. I was looking for a description to a particular hot spring and found only VERY vague directions, but their site seems to have more detail, but of course I'm not a subscriber. So I was wondering how useful it might be. Normally, I just google around and search for people posting...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Coleman Fold & Go 2 Burner Stove

I don't own one but I did prepare one meal using a friends a couple of weeks ago. On the plus side, the unit is very compact and the burners have good separation when it is open allowing the use of two fairly large pots or pans. It looks to be well made and should last. The Fold n' Go's...

I too have very little clearance between my rear fender flares and the front jacks. I use this technique for aligning the camper as I back under it. http://www.where-rv-now.com/Notes/Separation Scroll down to "String's Wizzo Camper Alignment Technique". It works quite well.

The Narrows is a spectacular hike. Unlike anything I've ever done. By the end of May the Virgin River will be well off its peak flows but can still be running fast and cold. If you don't have specialized canyoneering equipment and apparel drop by Zion Rock and Mountain Guides in Springdale...

Please explain to me what is meant by "reserve power". Cabela's online battery buyer's guide gives good definitions of MCA, CCA, and Ah but not their own mysterious "reserve capacity" specification. They also carry the Optima D31M which they state has a reserve capacity rating of 155. The...

I just got back from a couple of days in Tuolumne Meadows. I did day hikes to Boothe and Cathedral Lakes and an overnight to Clouds Rest. I passed an occasional hiker each day but no crowds to speak of. I had the summit of Clouds Rest all to myself at sunrise and caught the first light on...

I've been over Trail Ridge Road many times in the past but have never seen the logs on the Alpine Visitor Center roof. Do you know if these are put up at the end of the season before the Center closes or are they a permanent fixture that has been recently added? Loved the pictures. Rocky is...
