RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How Long Do You Keep Your Vehicles?

This is a very fun conversation! I learned to drive in a 61 Plymouth Valiant, nicknamed "blue cloud" for the burned oil left hanging over the highway! My own list of vehicles in chronological order: 61 Chevy Biscayne wagon, 64 MG 1100 (now that was an education!), 1951 GMC pickup (foot starter...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Solar controller as battery health indicator?

Thanks for the replies - I gave a call to Zamp in Bend, OR and learned a bit about my solar controller, that the Ah indication is simply a tally of the amp hours produced over a period of time by the solar panel (which does seem to be a sort of useless number?!) I also learned that my...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Solar controller as battery health indicator?

Desert Dave, thanks for the response - the readings I quoted earlier were after a full day of full sun, however your mention of reseting the system has me curious - I'm not sure how the controller resets itself nor do I know how one does that manually - I looked at the manual for the controller...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Solar controller as battery health indicator?

I have the 100 watt panel and Zamp 15amp controller as installed by FWC (a retrofit) with the factory installed group 24 75ah battery (the battery is about two and a half years old and was not treated kindly the first couple of years of ownership: depleted several times far below 50% of charge)...

Yesterday heading south on 97 between Yakima WA and Redmond OR we met a nice Northstar pop-up on a silver Ranger, and a bit further south we passed a Scamper pop-up on an older red Tacoma. It was a great weekend for some travel and camping!

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West The Wildlife Photography Thread

I found an app called "Image Size" for my iPad that resizes photos and allows me to post to WTW from my iPad. It's a bit cumbersome but itis free! It also works with my iPhone. Also, you folks take and make some beautiful images, I appreciate your willingness to share.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West purchase FWC factory solar? Or?

Initially we had no solar, and experienced a lot of battery frustration, so I picked up a portable from Solar Blvd.,100w total. It worked really well, anytime we were set up in a sketchy area I would run a bicycle cable lock through it and lock it to the pickup or a table or such. We realized...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West What truck campers for a Nissan Frontier!

We have the FWC Eagle on our 2010 Frontier CC with the 73" bed. I added air bags and E range tires and it handles very well.

Camped at Cape Blanco on the Oregon Coast earlier this week; on Monday afternoon when we were pulling in there were three! FWCs in the park- an Eagle on a red first gen Nissan Frontier with maybe North Carolina? plates, a Granby on a full size white pickup (travelling with the red truck?) and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Random FWC Photos

Thanks for the suggestion, the app I tried is called "Image Size" and seems pretty straight forward, free, and as you say - "quick and dirty" - I just wanted something to post pics to WTW without having to use the iPad camera- so far this seems to work, I may try it out on the iPhone as well.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Random FWC Photos

From some time ago camped at Mecca Flat along the Deschutes R. No steelhead but I did catch some nice trout and had a cool encounter with a bobcat soaking up some riverside sunshine. (I'm also trying out a photo resize app on the iPad - we'll see... )

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Outdoor shower worth it?

We debated and discussed having the shower retrofitted, but finally chose to keep our storage; a 6 gallon tank and associated hardware for the shower and heater would have consumed about half of our cabinet space. We use a solar shower or a Zodi. The Zodi has worked well, fairly quick and the...

Just learned courtesy of wikipedia that Oregon currently offers 8 different plate designs! I've always just put on whatever the DMV didnt charge extra for. Also learned that the original "Pacific Wonderland" plates were only made from 1960-1964; I was a 4th grader when they stopped! Maybe I'm...

On Monday on our way to the coast on Oregon 126, met an eastbound FWC on an early dark colored Tacoma, just west of Eugene. A bit later in the morning met a bronze-ish colored full size pickup with a FWC, southbound on highway 1, between Florence and Yachats. And yesterday, sitting at the Green...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Is solar worth it?

http://youtu.be/npOCVDVkft4 I just happened onto this video by Tom of FWC, in which he does a nice job comparing and contrasting fridge types. His discussion of power consumption by the 2-way and 3-way is in nice simple language for the non-engineer type (me!) I now know why running my fridge...

You might look at the Fleet or the Eagle, they are 80" long, isn't that about 14" longer than your truck bed? Both of those models offer front or side dinette. We have the side version in our Eagle and are very pleased with the configuration.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Owner installed FWC solar plug (side option)

Nicely done! And another great contribution to the site. In another 10 years or so I might become brave enough to drill holes in the side of my camper, but until then I'll have the shop do the task; that way if it leaks all the fingers won't be pointing back at me! Again, well done!

That is a beautiful area, last winter we caught a spate of amazing weather between Chrismas and New Year and hiked the Lost Coast Trail - my wife camped here a couple of nights with the dog and then picked my son, daughter and I up south at Shelter Cove. We saw no other people until our third...
