    Low Cost Mods

I do a lot of paddling on camping trips, and with the family along it means a lot of paddles. I used to keep the paddles in this long skinny bag, but it took up a lot of room in the camper. My ATC Cougar has a large overhang over the truck bed rails, so I made a strap attach/cinch solution to...

Rear door woes and a fix

My rear door got some water into the inner panel. A leak at the top corner I think. Over time the little screws that hold the panel to the frame became loose and would not tighten. Eventually the door became difficult to open and close, because the panel was sliding down in the frame and...

Prototype done- protective “Bra” for front of cabover

I made something like this. The wind buffeting is quite bad and the anything attached at the front of the overhang takes a beating. I also think it looked like ass, but that's subjective. It was difficult to actuate the latches. No significant benefit. However, this did lead to something...

    Propane or Stovetop Issue

Do you open your propane tank valve slowly? If you go too fast it can ruin the brand new regulator. Ask me how I know.

    Cougar or Puma Shell?

Since you have a long bed truck, go with the Cougar for a better fit/look and better back door ingress/egress. I have the Cougar and did my own interior build, and very glad I have that extra space in there even when I take solo trips. Never had a problem on trails with the Cougar width...

My procrastination on installing a DC-DC charger and all the wiring involved has paid off! The less you do, the further you go.

    Want to Go Modular- Interior

I wonder why you would take things out for hunting, or put back in for a family trip? Furnace, sink, stove, battery, water tank are all pretty much fixed. Maybe you could have a portable stove with a quick connect fitting. Anyway, all these things have to be housed in a cabinet of some kind...

    New Rear Awning Design

The problem I ran into when trying to attach the awning to the area above the door is that, to get a good enough slope for water to drain off, the far end (away from the camper) was too low and I had to duck under it. When I attached to the roof there was a good slope and water drained off...

Any suggestions for a refrigerator/freezer for my Project M?

Dometic has a full line of 12v fridges. Mine has been flawless for few years now. Love it.

    New Rear Awning Design

David, I tried to attach over the door, but it was very low, especially at the end furthest from the camper, and the angle to the jack brackets was too acute so strength was not good. I liked it better on the pop top so it is higher of course, but also makes set up easy since after putting the...

    New Rear Awning Design

I made a few extra holsters that attach to the jack brackets. Stainless steel, left and right specific. Send me a PM if interested.

Strange Water Leak, Flatbed Grandby, Seeking Advice

Brian, If you have an external shower, it may be coming from there and making it down to the bed. Water can get trapped in the shower head or hose.

    New Rear Awning Design

Its really simple. The struts slide into these custom holsters that are bolted to the jack brackets... The rip stop material has an awning rope sewn into it and this slides into the awning rail that is screwed to the top of the camper... Tensioners attach the corners of the material to the...

    New Rear Awning Design

I've been working on a new rear awning design for pop-up truck campers. This design uses custom "holsters" that bolt to the jack brackets. Aluminum square tube struts are in tension with the awning fabric attached to the top of the camper with an awning rail. An aluminum round tube spans...

    You have a screw loose

Actually more than one. I had to snug up most of the screws along the top edge and the ones holding the roof latches on as well. Seems these work themselves a little loose.

    campers with bathrooms

They stink, period. I've been in lots of campers with bathrooms and if you use them for number 2 the camper is going to smell at some point. There's a lot of plumbing beyond what you can scrub clean, and campers do sit for long periods. My simple solution is to use the camper bathroom for...

    Jack bracket question

Keep the inner bracket in there, otherwise you will rip your corner apart. And also don't forget to use lots of silicon sealant on those lag bolts. Now do as your told, or you are in big trouble:)

    Foot operated water pump install

I have an electric pump and I put a foot switch on the floor. Placement of the foot pump/switch is something to spend a little time thinking about. You don't want it too far out where you will step on it accidentally, and not too close to the cabinet so that it is hard to get the tip of your...

How Thirsty are 2nd GEN Tundras? 5.7 V8s

I just got back from a trip today with my 2008 Tundra DC with Cougar, and I just happened to have (for the first time) carefully calculated my gas mileage. I went from Boulder Co to Fruita Co, stayed a couple of days, and then back. I kept it at about 65mph on I-70, occasionally going up to 70...

    Trashcan Mount

Cool idea to keep the trash outside during the day at camp. I simply empty the trash into the big metal bin at the campground in the evening to keep the bears from bothering me.

Drill and screw through the black plastic piping trim?

I think that a screw going through the plastic trim piece would seal, given the plastic trim piece is very flexible. Probably want to put silicon sealant on the screw as well just to be sure. The trick is to not hit the head of the screws already in there.

Drill and screw through the black plastic piping trim?

I'm working on a project and wondering if one could drill a small hole and put a screw into the black plastic trim that runs along the exterior corners. I assume it is just hiding the screws that hold the corner together. Anybody do this?
