Beat the heat and smoke this morning, went into the Elkhorn Mountains. Cool and clear… discovered several meadows covered in White Mariposa Lillies (Calochortus eurycarpus), more than I have ever seen.

Frank, thank you! We get a few here at the fort, but there were thousands in the meadows behind the Elkhorns. I’ve never seen so many.

Wandering Sagebrush - We were camping near the Buckhorn Viewpoint above the Imnaha a week or so back and saw similar masses of the beauties. Most I've ever seen in one location, spectacular!! Of course the camera was in my pack....
Also, equally impressive was the Mock Orange bloom in all the canyons, especially the North Fork of the John Day. (camera in pack...)

The lightning caused fire near Durkee is about 35 miles from us, but a south wind has brought in quite a bit of smoke. Visability is up to a mile now. Both the sun and full moon have been reddish orange as they rose.

Photos look like an old tinted monochrome.
