For the size you reference, 4,700-6,500 cubic inches, I would buy a good expedition backpack. That will last you longer than any duffel bag. Most duffel bags I find, are not built for the abuse a good expedition pack is built for. Not only that, you can get the pack that best suits your needs. I am a backpack/gear bag freak. I have either a pack and or bag for each activity I am involved in. When I do know I am going to need that size I either use a large dry bag if near water and if not I always go to my expedition packs. It's also nice to have the availability of mounting it on your back if you need two hands at any time. My large dry bags all have back pack straps as well.
