The Wildlife Photography Thread

Here's another from the same day. This is one beautiful little girl...

No, it was f5.6, 1/350 and ISO 400. Nikkor 500/4. I'd actually prefer to have a 400/2.8. I'm finding that light is more important than a big reach.

Yea you and those big Nikon mega pixel cameras. I'm working on higher shutter speeds that turn into higher ISO. I use Canons version 2 600 mm with a 1.4x attached to get more pixels on the subject. Always playing with light and adjusting where needed. Keep up with the good work....

Those images were taken with a D700, only 12 mega pickles. I regret selling mine, since they are so great at low light. My current wildlife body is only 16 MP. I'd like something around 20 MP, with a burst rate of about 10-11 frames per second, but Nikkon hasn't come out with it yet. On the plus side, the D4s comes close to the low light performance of the D700. Close, no cigar.

I will use a 1.4 TC with my 300/2.8, but rarely with the 500.

Let's see some of your images!!!

Thanks for the info on Nikon. I have been behind between traveling and moving and working on the Tahoe rim trail when I can. I have just over 100,000 images for the year that I need to look at... Oh my!

In honor of all our rain. This image is a rework of a photo that I published in 2012. The one below is from the same day, but not published.

Caught this guy outside our sun room this morning.
We were doing out morning "yoga-stretching" when we noticed this hawk sitting atop the power pole out back. It was looking for food and catching the first rays of sun.

Took a ride out to the Woodbridge Crane Reserve. Little late in the season for a lot of birds but had to try the new camera out.

Bill, very nice. If you don't have one, consider an extra battery. It's no fun to be out in the tules, and have a battery go dead on you.

Your daughter is a talented photographer.

More pix!!
