Time to move on......First day of winter

There is nothing like ice. This reminds me of our morning walk about a week ago. :)

You'd think that delivery folks in freezing areas would be outfitted with Yak Tracks or similar shoe cleats. Heck, the company I worked for bought each employee a pair just to navigate our company parking lot without slipping. (Yeah, I'm sure it was done on the advice of our attorney - to avoid lawsuits by slippers)

I live in Sacramento and even I have cleats and lightweight crampons.

Things are different down here:

(I'm at the blue dot)

Crazy forecast! What's remarkable, to a weather nerd like me, is the extreme difference in temperature depending on the wind direction! (note the arrows in the forecast) From the south: tropical hot. From the north...well, can't call it 'arctic cold', but a lot cooler.

Last night I had my front door open until I went to bed, and I kept the windows open overnight... listening to a family/pack of coyotes yelping wildly in the moonlight.

Slippery out there today.

Mr. BC, that looks so gosh darn comfortable, and ready for all kinds of weather. :)
The weather I have to be prepared for in advance is a hard, deep freeze. It's not designed to be a real 4-season rig -- plumbing-wise. I need to drain, clear the lines for that. But in that respect it's no different than my FWC.

Ya know, Mr 3pin, if you and the Lady ever get to be as old as me... you may want to consider such a rig for yourselves! ;)

That video is exactly how it is here today. Yup, micro spikes were required on our walk. Lots of surprised looks on driver's faces when suddenly they discovered they were sliding and could not stop.

A week ago from today we had thunder, lightning, and driving rain.........................felt like a summer thunderstorm going over. We have highs in the 60's forecast coming the end of this week. Is winter gone?

It’s still winter here. The Bride and I walked a portion of the Oregon Trail ruts, near the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Baker City. It was below freezing, with 10-15 MPH breeze from the NE. Brrrrrrrr.

Transplanted some lettuce starts on a warm January day today. We've been harvesting arugula from under a hoop and visqueen covered garden bed for six weeks now. We NEED rain in Northern California.
