RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Solar panel help....

Does anyone know the guage of the wiring for the solar panels? I have a 50 watt solar panel that I got with my camper, but I'm wanting to add another 100-150 watts, quite an increase in amps, and the last thing I want it to burn my camper to the ground. Thanks in advance!

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Battery

Check RV or boat stores. I have a group 29 deep cycle battery that I got from a boat store (sold for trolling motors) and It's been used for about 3 years, and every thing from 100+ to -30 temps and it works great! Optima's are nice, but they are pricey and to get a good amount of amp hours...

Ben here:):) Here is a picture of the pattern that we use for the steel plate on a Tundra. This gives you some idea of how we fit it under the truck. Ben www.allterraincampers.com Happen to have dimensions on that?

Ben here again. We have had to reinforce the toyota bed when they were made of metal so that the force of the camper in the front of the bed did not damage it. I would not expect a plastic bed to be able to take the force of camper better than the metal beds did. I am sure the beds will hold up...

Thanks for all the info and opinions. For Oly884 with the Tacoma- did you ever weigh your gear? Did you decide to add air bags after trying it out or right off the bat? Ever do aggressive off-roading with it? We venture into canyon country in the southwest often, with slickrock and the...

Well, I've got an '04 taco and it seems to handle it just fine. I put airlift airbags on my truck (purchased them from summitracing.com) and it dealt with the sagging just fine. Here are some pics:

Oh I'm not done wandering or working on this site! I see this as a temporary setback and hope to be back in the saddle in a year or so. Life lesson: don't become financially involved with a woman unless you are married to her! I have about 30 mining towns to post photos of over the winter...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Couple pics of the truck/camper while out last weekend

Unless they changed the structure of the roof in the last couple of years it is rated to hold 1000 pounds of wet snow in the up position. That is about 3-4 inches of wet snow. We never told anybody while I owned the company that you could put 2000 pounds on the roof. Ben my fault, you're...

The height is about 7'6" to get ample clearance. The weight on the roof is limited to 1000 lbs over the entire area which comes to about 20 lbs per square foot on my camper.

Thanks Ben, I'll be sure to give them a call and get the part #'s. Have to get a 12 ft. long kayak to seattle over thanksgiving. Would you think there'd be any issues strapping it directly to the top of the camper?

Anybody know of a good place to pick up the equipment. Also any part numbers? I've done some searching but am having a hard time coming up with the right parts that would work for our campers.

Yes we can probably put together a cabinet for the camper. When you get a chance give us a call at 800-446-1003 and we can discuss the options for doing that. Ben I'll be calling you guys tomorrow to see what we can do.

Good to hear Marty! Question for you. I got the shell model and have been kinda kicking myself that I didn't go with the full eagle (for my tacoma) because of the sink and stove. Would there be some way I could get the section with the sink and stove, etc? Or something along those lines? I can...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West What would you change about your camper?

Changing my camper? Well, money was the limiting factor on buying my camper, otherwise I'd have the sink, stove, etc. But it's not that big of a deal. What I would have liked was a roof that one could stand or sit on (while it was down) It would make camping a bit more fun, nothing like having...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Is anyone out there?

I would definitely say yes to buying another FWC. I remember I was searching on the internet for campers just for the fun of it. I came across their web site and now i'm $x,xxx down the hole but enjoying every second of it. haha.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Four Wheel Camper - What options?

Does anyone use an invertor with their unit? Maybe to power a very small microwave (600W). I have one I use to work my FoodSaver Vac 1050. When the fish are hittin' you need the room! Mainly on my Alaska trips when I'm gone for a week or two. The last four days or so I fish like hell and seal...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Four Wheel Camper - What options?

I have had both the two-way (12V-110) as well as the 3-way (LPG-12V-110). I currently have a Norcold two-way. The advantage to a two-way refrigerator is the vehicle doesn't have to be level. I have a house battery and it works very well. The system works much like a real fridge. The LPG models...

Did you happen to get the Arctic Pack with that new FWC? Was wondering just how well those insulate. Probably will get mighty cold in Montana. Yup, I did get the arctic pack. I'm going to go sleep out in it when the temps really start droping.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Eagle/Tacoma experiences

I've got an '04 taco with the V-6 and I get about 16 to 18 mpg with the camper on. Head winds can drop it down to 13-14 depending on how fast you're going (I go 70-75 regularly) I bet you could get decent gas mileage with the 4 banger, but you'll have issues with hills or passes (as I do) but I...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Winter Use?

I'm going to make a water system that is all inside (i have the shell) for exactly that reason. As for performance in the winter, I'll get back to you when I go out this winter. We hit -20 or colder here quite a bit in the winter, so I'll be sure to let you know how it works out.
