87 Octane @ $2.40 here a year ago... currently it's at $3.80.

How come?
Several reasons…

1. Hurricane Ida closing down rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and production facilities in LA.
2. Summer driving demand
3. Possibly increased taxes
4. We have gone from a net producer back to a net importer of oil…

Filled up yesterday morning ( 29 gals) in Grass Valley - still $4.49 at Chevron. We'll see how long that lasts.

Well on the bright side we could all be enduring this price spike driving around in rigs like these:

I can still get diesel for 4.30 a gallon. I was surprised how much fuel was in Nevada. Even the Casino station was still 3.99 a gallon.

About $3.70/gal regular is typical here in Bend, OR this week.

...in 3 or 4 weeks I expect to be paying about 80¢ or 90¢ less...and be back to wearing T-shirt and shorts and sandals.

So back to the land of snakes, bugs and sunburns…

Just home from spending a month in the Black Hills.
Lowest price paid: $2.999 in White Bear Lake, MN, 9/15/21
Highest price paid: $3.549 in Hill City, SD, 10/12/21.
Average over 1980 miles = $3.27

Renewable diesel hits the pumps at Bend gas station
video from KTVZ TV
I don't own a diesel vehicle, but this story on tonight's local TV news is kinda interesting. According to the story, this is the first place in Oregon to sell "renewable diesel" to the public. Renewable diesel (aka, "green diesel") is different than biodiesel.

Not surprising that this gas station is the first (in Bend, at least) to have this product. They sell other non-standard vehicle fuels.

(The new "green diesel" isn't yet shown on their price board.)

This thread started in 2012 but is still “current” by definition? Kinda like the word “modern”.

I generally do not let gas prices hinder a road trip. I used to shop for good gas prices but not anymore. I mostly look for clean and convenient gas stations.

I agree… it is nice finding the cheaper stations but clean and convenient is okay yet. Does not stop me from forever watching the signs and checking the gauge.Funny i caught myself fretting about the 5 empty 5 gallon diesel tanks in the barn for winter tractor snow removal …. Can’t buy yet until the winter mix comes out! (Even though I still add my own anti gel mix)… bet I’ll lose a few six packs of beer by the time I can buy. And so it goes.

I think that's a good way to view it.
You could drive all over town spending
time and fuel just to save a few cents.

Gotta have it but will watch out for the stations that
want to take advantage of the gas issue.

$4.379 yesterday at my favorite Chevron. I’m driving the MoHo north to Carmichael tomorrow for my cousin’s 65th and I've been checking Pilot/Flying J prices along the 99/I-5 corridor. At best I get 8mpg so it definitely matters.

8mpg! Ouch! our F350 4x4 Tiger (10,000+ lbs loaded) with a 7.3L gasser averages between12 and 13. I see by your post you have a stock Chevy 2500 with just a shell. That doesn't seem right. Am I missing something?
