Spring Sprang!

Yesterday we got everything - rain, snow, thunderstorm with hail. Clear and 23 this morning. We'll see how the new leaves on the peach trees do along with the blossoms and leaves on the apple tree. Chance of snow showers the rest of the week.

A small storm rolled through on Monday. More small storms are predicted for Thursday (tomorrow), Saturday, and next Tuesday. It's getting to look like our old winter pattern.

We received about an inch of snow overnight -- more than a dusting or a skiff.

It really does seem odd to have temperatures drop to the low 20s -- even upper teens -- this time of year. A day or two, sure, but a week of winter in April is definitely unusual.

Because it's warmer, the air can hold more moisture...but if it's still below freezing in the mountains that can mean bigger dumps of snow -- while raining at slightly lower elevations. But you knew that.

Yep!

Yeah...but it's a poor year when the maximum depth at Mt Bachelor barely tops 100 inches.

And I've got 40 tomato, 8 eggplant, 16 basil sweet/thai, two types of cukes and summer/winter squash starts in my laundry with LED lights and heat mats! I delayed a week later than last year to start indoor seeds.

Pear blossoms froze but it is beginning a second flush of bloom. Apple blossoms are beginning to open. Now we need some pollinators. Saw a few bees yesterday but as my sister said - coulda been one bee a few times.

It's been winter-cold all week here in Bend, with a bit of snow every other day, soon melting. Last night and this morning we got almost 2 inches, and if this forecast is accurate it may be the last 'significant' snow of the season.

Last significant snow, maybe... but let's not forget Bend's legendary Independence Day snow of 1980 (or '81? '79?). I was there - snow flakes fell in Bend as we played volleyball at a 4th of July BBQ. The snow didn't stick on the ground, but still...

Three inches yesterday and over an inch today. I baked bread!
We did get out for our local 1.5 mile hike as the storm broke this afternoon.

Winter is coming back to pay Spring a visit -

It was close to 70* up at the cabin this week, 7200’. Possible snow this Thursday night and then close to that 70* mark after the weekend. I’ll take any precipitation as our lake and spring-fed water system relies heavily on snowpack. There was some water going through the dam overflow so that’s good news. Hmm…this may call for an early May banzai trip back up to Mammoth.

Three days ago, Wednesday, it hit 80 here in Bend. I had all the big windows in the house open and I wore shorts all day. Could have been summer...

...But looks like we're back to late-winter / early-spring for a few days.
