The Wildlife Photography Thread

Jody, thanks for the 'Wow'. While technique is important, knowing where to go and how the subjects behave is equally (if not more) important. You have some excellent refuges near you, and winter is a great time to be there. I believe Bear Valley has an auto tour route. If you don't have a bean bag for shooting from your vehicle, that is one of the first things I would get.

If I remember correctly, you shoot Canon. The Canon 100-400 lens that Andy mentions is an affordable and excellent lens for wildlife photography.

Have fun, but be careful... It's addictive :)
I have a 70-200 2.8 and a 2X extender will that get me there? As far as addictive I'm way past that I have 10 Gopro's kickin around now. I think it's best to not go around and count the cameras it's getting up there. I did sell one recently.

You're dropping two full f-stops with the 2x converter, so that's effectively a 400/5.6 at max zoom. I think you would be happier with a larger lens, but you're the best judge of that. I prefer primes for telephotos, but there are some really good zoom lenses, like the one Andy shoots.

Something tells me we are about to see a localized epidemic of CAS (Canon Acquisition Syndrome).

I don't have to many wildlife photos

Another shot of the tree they nest in. Check out the DC eagle cam,the female should
start laying eggs any time now.
This year there is sound also.
Enjoy, they have been fun to watch through the months.

Headed out to the farmland around Davis,CA today to shoot raptors. Instead stumbled on a "herd" of Burrowing Owls :) These guys are the ultimate definition of cute !

Steve - great bighorn shots! Also enjoying seeing your Greater sage-grouse paired with my Hart Mtn image in this months Wild Desert calendar. Many thanks again for your contributions. We may yet again lean on you this year...

Fyi - my sweetie and I signed up for lek monitoring for ODFW this spring. Waiting for our location assignment coming next week. Hoping we can get into the southern Malheur County area with all the snow we've had this winter.2017-03-03_165244.jpg

Superb big horn sheep, Steven! We've only visited VF once but didn't see any quadrupeds.
Really like the excellent light and detail on these portrait shots.
