The Wildlife Photography Thread

Thank you all for the kind words on the rams... I had never seen that many in past years. This year, multiple times every day. I wish I could have seen more of the ewes and lambs. My guess is the rains and cooler temperatures have provided enough browse that they could stay in larger groups at lower elevations. They were very curious, coming within 20 feet of camp at times.

Steve - great bighorn shots! Also enjoying seeing your Greater sage-grouse paired with my Hart Mtn image in this months Wild Desert calendar. Many thanks again for your contributions. We may yet again lean on you this year...

Fyi - my sweetie and I signed up for lek monitoring for ODFW this spring. Waiting for our location assignment coming next week. Hoping we can get into the southern Malheur County area with all the snow we've had this winter.

I wish I could join you, but it looks like no sage grouse for me this year. I think we have a sale for the house at the beach. Maybe I'll get to Malheur in May. I'd love to provide some more images for ONDA.

I am not a photographer. I just take pictures. I am on page 68 of the thread so far and am blown away by the talent. There are some absolutely gorgeous photos. Hope to get through the next 60 pages soon! Thought that I'd pop in a photo taken by our wildlife camera. So it can't be said I took the shot as it is triggered by a sensor. It has black LED flash ...we can't see it but I can tell by animal reactions, especially the coyotes and moose... they definitely do. Hard to ever see the guys that are nocturnal like flying squirrels and fishers etc. After 5 years and hundreds of nice shots of animals and birds in day (color) as well as B&W for night I 'caught' a fisher passing by. They are ferocious animals whose favorite meal are porcupine. Anyway just thought someone might like it. Not in any way shape or form in the league of the stuff I have seen here on this thread!

Thanks for the pictures. Beautiful shot of the Snowy Egret.
It's a good season for water birds at least around our area.
Lots of frogs in all the full ponds brings in the Egrets/Herons.
Fun to watch.

Is there any camping close to that area?

Sacramento NWR is right off HY5 between Willows north and Williams south. I drive from Sacramento so don't camp in that area. Delevan NWR is just south of Sacramento NWR, and Colusa NWR is off HY20 in Colusa, south and east of Sacramento NWR. All three are easily done in a single day. Colusa Casino has free RV overnight parking in a separate lot. I'm sure there's plenty of other camping in the area. You might try a google search....
