Suburban stove partial removal - how to?

On our camper, those screws are connected to plastic clamp assemblies with “arms” that press up against the bottom of the counter to secure the stove when you tighten them. In order to remove the stove or lift it up very far, you have to loosen the screws enough to allow those arms to be...

Inline water strainer inside camper 2 ?

Maybe I should, but I never have and it hasn't leaked so far... -Scott

    Frustrating interaction with FWC

The 85L and 130L refrigerators require different cabinet designs. At least on our camper, the 85L has another storage space with a hinged lid above it. I believe that is not the case with the larger 130L refrigerator. Once your camper is in production they may have already cut all of the...

Solar upgrade for 2017 Fleet - is the stock wiring sufficient?

I also have a 330W panel with the stock wiring.

Will a Hawk work in an 8' bed

No worries. After I saw your post, I had to double check and make sure my recollection was accurate. My Grandby is now permanently mounted to a flatbed tray, so I haven’t had it off for awhile and can’t easily see the base either. -Scott

    USB and inverter outlet upgrades

As Beach indicated, the Blue Sea products are the gold standard and is what FWC uses for the standard panel. However, the last time I looked, Blue Sea didn’t have a USB C option. Powerwerx is also generally regarded highly for their components, so I was considering one of their replacement...

Will a Hawk work in an 8' bed

Here is a photo of a Hawk camper up on jacks to illustrate the issue: Forward of the arrow, the base is narrow enough to fit between the wheel wells in the truck bed. Rear of the arrow the base steps out, and would typically not be able to slide past the wheel wells. Here is a diagram from...

Will a Hawk work in an 8' bed

The camper base is wider at the rear, designed to fit behind the wheel wells of the truck. So, it can't be pushed any farther forward. I think KP Pawley at Zero Declination is working on a tunnel box that is designed to be installed in that foward gap to provide additional storage.

    (Another) Lithium upgrade!

Zero Declination sells a plate desgined to cover the opening. It also provides a place to mount the BMV-712 (which you should absolutely have with lithium batteries since voltage isn't a reliable indicator of SOC)...

    Garmin inreach mine2?

FWIW, I use an InReach Mini I attached to a suction cup Ram mount attached to the wind shield to log the driving route we take for all of our trips. I set it to a 30s logging interval, which seems to be a good compromise between battery life and accuracy. The battery lasts all day and I...

    Fresair evaporative cooler install?

Water line routing would also be my biggest concern. It looks like they are designed for a van with a fixed height roof where you could fairly easily route and secure the water lines up the wall to the roof. With the FWC, they would have to be installed so that they can accomodate the...

    Hawk battery discharge question

It is also a good idea to try and recharge the batteries fully after a deep discharge with the full charge cycle if possible: Bulk > Absorption > Float.

A Quick Trip to Succor Creek and Leslie Gulch

Yes, I have been nervously watching the extended forecast... I have also been worried about mosquitoes, so it is good to hear that they weren't a problem at Succor Creek. I suspect we won't be so lucky at some of the other stops on our trip (we will be on the road for two weeks - mostly in...

    Exterior Amber Light?

Those fixtures aren’t sealed and are susceptible to dust intrusion which can cause the switch to stop making good contact. You can often resurrect them by spraying the switch and electrical contacts with contact cleaner.

    Possible Suburban Propane Stove Recall

Nope. I contacted a couple of the authroized service centers in the Central Valley that Suburban suggested (40 minutes away) and never got a response back. My opinion is that the service centers, 1) have likely never seen an FWC before, so there is more uncertainty in the effort required to...

Are load range E tires really needed for camper?

It's good that you are thinking about these issues in advance. CAT scales are pretty widely distributed across the country (but mostly along freeways), and they are easy to use. It looks like there are some in the vicinity of Bozeman on I-90: https://catscale.com/cat-scale-locator/ You may...

Are load range E tires really needed for camper?

You should really be evaluating the load separately on each axle since it probably won't be distributed evenly front to back. What I would probably do is wait until you get the new rig and when you have it fully loaded with everything for your first trip (fuel, propane, water, beer, passengers...

    ladder on hawk camper

Are you planning to store anything on the roof? If so, you should know that the FWC roofs aren't designed to hold a lot of additional weight, and any weight you add to the roof makes it more difficult to lift. The roof also isn't designed for you to walk on it. If you aren't planning to store...

    Running Lights Wont Turn Off?

When FWC installed our camper, they connected the running light wire to the driver's side tail light circuit. So, it is not powered by the connections into the camper, but by the tail light circuit.

Jerry Cans - The secret Weapon

I have the AT Overland jerry can holder with their FWC corner bracket mount. It has an additional bar that supports the bottom of the holder and bolts through the bottom of the camper overhang. I think this also prevents repetitive flexing on rough roads to reduce the stress on the corner...
