Fall into Autumn 2018

Well, that would only rule out the summer months here... Maybe that's why they say we have 2 seasons- winter and the 4th of July, or maybe it's winter and road construction. :)
To clarify, "don't go above freezing all day... " So today wasn't "WINTER" because we hit +5* C today... yeah!

Well we didn't hit -5°C today plus had 20 mph winds- yeah, cold, at least for this early in November. But I suspect your winters are pretty good for bragging rights in Calgary, even compared to ours in Minneapolis.

I just bought this new "weather" book: "18 Miles: The Epic Drama of Our Atmosphere and Its Weather", by Christopher Dewdney

I haven't read it, so I don't know yet if it qualifies for a post in the "Favorite Books" topic, but it's weather-related, so I figured it could be posted here.
The 'naturalist' author is also a poet, so...... but reviews say it's science-y and fact-filled -- not a lot of nonsense, so I figured it was worth the price of the Kindle version, at least.
I'll give a book report later.

McAllen Texas this morning sitting in bird photo blind.... 26 degree F... come on warm up already! Even the birds did not want to move around.

Could it really be? :)

...Change to Winter Weather Expected for the Holiday Weekend...

A major change in the weather pattern is coming to NorCal this
week which will impact holiday travel. A series of winter like
storms will plow through NorCal later this week bringing rain and
mountain snow to the region. The first system is set to arrive
late Tuesday into Wednesday. Roadways will likely be slick due to
previous stretches of drier weather, so motorists should be
mindful when traveling especially Wednesday into Thursday morning.
As rainfall accumulates over the holiday weekend, ponding water
will be possible where storm drains have been clogged by leaves
and other debris. Debris flows over any of the recent fires will
also become a major concern.

Up in the mountains, accumulating snow is forecast with travel
difficulties likely starting Wednesday afternoon and continuing
through Saturday. Gusty winds and accumulating snow will make for
treacherous conditions over the mountains with whiteout conditions
being possible at the passes Thursday into Friday.

Hmmm... So, maybe I should switch to the winter/snow tires on my car before I head to NorCal for T-Day.

We just put our set of snow tires on the Lady's Subaru. :)

Ebbetts Pass - highway 4
Sonora Pass - highway 108
Tioga Pass - highway 120

are all now closed over the Sierra Nevada

Come on winter!

Driving from Bend to Redding this afternoon there was occasional rain...that became heavy north of Lake Shasta - wipers on 'High' heavy. It's raining moderately here, east of Redding, now.

I had to use my snowblower in mid-November this year. That doesn't normally happen here.

And the snow happened so early in the year that I still had a motorcycle parked in the driveway. And of course I had an extension cord running to its battery maintainer.

So now I have more extension cords--- and in multiple lengths!

Did you get a light show as you added to the E cord collection?
Not really a light show, no. But it was an odd feeling seeing the snow move strangely and a green snake rear up out of it and run into my snowblower.

I just got home from California, and I found some patches of snow in the shady areas of my yard. (Bend, OR)
First in-town snow of the season!
