Nice alpenglow this evening

Nearly t-shirt weather here. Hope we get more weather but its not looking good for the next few weeks.

I remember a few years ago (?) ...winter started off fierce and heavy but then kinda stopped after the first of the year.
I hope I'm not jinxing winter by mentioning this.

Hmmm... This doesn't seem like what January in central Oregon should be like...

Activity here in south Florida:

Featuring a tornado watch!

That's ok... I did a good long kayak paddle loop -- through mangrove swamp and flooded prairie -- yesterday under sunny calm conditions, so I'm content to just hang out today.

Did you make in through okay? Florida tornado made the news here.
Yep, all good, thanks for asking, Mr 3pin.
Where I was, Long Pine Key Campground, Everglades NP, it got no worse than the whipping and swaying palms and pines seen in my little video.

I'll tell you what winter is: I'm wearing long pants, shoes, and a jacket outside for the first time in months!
I turned the furnace on in my trailer last night for the first time in months!

But it's sunny out, which is normal in Florida with north wind in winter, I think.

This morning I got a call from the guy who runs the motel I stayed in (when not camping) outside the Okefenokee Swamp, near the Georgia-Florida border. Turned out to be an accidental 'butt dial' but we chatted briefly anyway -- about the weather, naturally.
He said, "There was a frost!! Not too normal here lol".

Yessir, what you consider "cold" or "hot" depends on what you're used to.

A friend's sister runs a girls school in Nigeria where stocking caps, mittens, and sweaters are standard outdoor attire in January and February. It can get down to 26ºC (~80ºF).

I remember, a few decades back now, I moved to the Sierra Nevada from Wisconsin and joined a back country ski patrol. A lot of training was focused on cold weather preparedness and I though, "You guys think this is cold?"

"what you're used to" also applies to to humidity.
I'm still a humidity wimp, but after spending many months in the South I'm getting a little more tolerant.
So I have to laugh when back in Bend someone comments: "It's muggy today!"... meaning the humidity is all the way up to 50%RH. :D
