It's Fall Here

Two days ago it was 89° at Dinosaur NM. We’re home now to lots of rain and temps in the 50’s. Going over Cabbage Hill yesterday, we saw 38°.

New snow visible on Mt Shasta today as I drove by on US 97. Not heavy, but maybe almost as low as timberline.

Rain here, new snow on Diamond Mountain just to the south of here (FYI-DM marks the end of the Sierra's) and clouds are blocking my view to the north and the start of the Modoc Plateau and Cascade Mtn range. . They say it is supposed to get into the high 70's 0r 80's this weekend!

Smoke

In the fall, some humans go out to harvest wild game. Squirrels harvest pine nuts, and they leave their "gut piles" on my deck!

All the visible debris (except maybe the dead pine needles, which fall anyway) are the result of squirrels working in the Ponderosa pine over my deck.

Collateral damage: Why must they clip off live bits of the tree? Sloppy, wasteful work by the squirrels.

Note the core of pine cone, circled, after the nutty goodness has been harvested.

Definitely felt like fall today. Cloudy most of the day but the sun is out now. Possibility of rain tomorrow.

We did our winter change over today. Removed the loader off the tractor and mounted the snowblower and installed the tire chains. Then we removed the awning from the deck and stored everything in the garage. Finished just in time to run inside as a thunderstorm hit with driving hail. Glad we harvested the last of the peaches mid week!

Graupel falling at my house!

………………………….

Breaking news: Now it's snowing -- and sticking -- at my house!
