She wasn't happy when I came around the corner.

Saw a lot of bucks in velvet this year. This fella even posed for me.

More shots from Central Oregon. A chipping sparrow (Spizella passerine) with a prey item for the hatchlings.

And a pretty little female Williamson's Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus thyroideus).

Yep, always found loons pretty special, we don't live in an area where they are so getting to those areas adds to it. These were taken on the Kenai river just below Skilak Lake

I'm in the archives, as we are getting a new roof today, and I need to stay home. This is from January 2014.

Perfect shot, Stephen. You nailed the focus and even got a catch light in the hawk's eye. The background bokeh (out of focus blur) really isolates the subject. And, one of my all time favorite raptors too! :)

Andy, thank you for the kind words. The day I shot that image, and the one in this post was one of the very best I've ever had for Northern Harriers. Like you, they are one of my all time favorites. I believe the bird in the image below is the same one as my post above.

We made a recent visit to the International Crane Foundation. Here is an iPhone pic of a couple of endangered Whoopers we saw there:
